Wilder is clearly a better 'Wonka' than Depp.
Both films are mediocre.

I'm not familiar with the original story. I was only critisizing the film... which I think is perfectly fine, as an honest adaptation it may be (?), but that really doesn't make it any better movie. Just more similar to the source material.bradavon wrote:You seemed to suggest it was a bad thing.
Admittedly I'm not in the film's target audience, and did not watch it voluntarily.

Did you read Dahl as a kid Hung? I did, fantastic kids stories.
No way. I'm not saying you are but clearly many have an inaccurate nostalgia to the original film. They couldn't even get the films name accurate. It's not a bad film, Burton's is just better.Markgway wrote:Wilder is clearly a better 'Wonka' than Depp.

Yeah man, I can't stand that remake, the original's far more magical and charming.

Roald Dahl was the writer on a Bond film (You Only Live Twice).

Repeating what another forum member just said, won't make you look more clever

Mission: Impossible III
Enjoyed this more the second time around. I finally realised that J.J. Abrahms' stamp on the film is not an aesthetic one, but in the drama and the mechanisms of the plot. Tempted to deduct marks for having the WORST theme song I've ever heard. It's by someone called Kanye West. It makes Die Another Day sound like Bridge Over Troubled Water. Atrocious. Probably won a grammy for it. Weirdly before the film began the cont announcer warned that the film contained strong language from the beginning. Er... there wasn't a single one.
Keeping Mum
British black comedy. Good cast, but perhaps too mild for its own good. Amusing and witty rather than funny. Bonus points for glimpses of the lovely Tamsin Egerton's tits.

MI3 IMO is easily the worst. It feels nothing like an MI film, sure neither does MI2 but that's a hell of a lot of Woo fun. MI is the only one which frankly is anything like the TV series but for me MI2 is easily the best.

The Princess and The Frog: 2/5
Update of the Frog Prince story set in New Orleans, with some catchy jazz/blues songs, a few references to other Disney classics, and oddly retro looking animation. Would have been about 3/5 but a couple in our group really annoyed me by laughing WAY too loud and I couldnt make out what was being said which spoilt my enjoyment of the film.

Disney cartoon about New Orleans + Randy Newman = The perfect pairing, shame the narrative and characters were so bland!

The thing that interested me about M:I3 upon rewatching is that it features by far Tom Cruise's best acting performance in the series. It's no classic, but I've warmed to it since my less than positive theatrical experience.

Inglorious Basterds (2009) – 4.5/5
Gotta admit, it took me two viewing to fully get into Tarantino's WWII film that was effectively misrepresented by both its title and marketers. It is, however, a film crying for multiple viewings. Tarantino's trademark violent bursts are included, but what precedes them – absolutely masterful tension building combining the best of Tarantino and Leone – is what truly matters. QT's ear for music doesn't fail either; David Bowie's Cat People, a vast selection of Morricone from The Big Gundown to Revolver, and much more. First billed actor Brad Pitt is really a supporting character in a story that ties together several chapters taking place in a Nazi occupied France. Young movie theater owner Melanie Laurent stands out, but it's Christoph Waltz’s quarto lingual performance that is worth all the praise. Tarantino also deserves credit for shooting his Europe epic in local languages; French, German, and English are spoken in equal amounts, supported by a fistful of Italian language comedy gold. Samuel L. Jackson's informative bulletin interruptions and other poor man's cleverness could've been left on the cutting room floor, though.

As apposed to a Canadian classic.
