I had a look at Kung Fu Panda BD and it looks very good - you can even see the fur on Po's body, and things like that.
Switching on "24p smooth film" on the TV as well as 24p output on the BD (?) gives the image a more fluid feel, you feel less like your just watching a TV screen I think...
I dunno if 24p Smooth Film is meant to be on as well as 24p from the player.

The 'Smooth' setting on my Toshiba is the 100Hz mode so it makes stuff look weird and video-like due to the overly smooth and unnatural movement, I wonder if yours is the same.

I've noticed something a bit odd with some DVDs on my player - well, some HKLs anyway. Sometimes, when loading up and getting the warning screen or when watching some trailers (eg Fist of Fury), theres bands of light or something down the sides. Bands of blue and red appear down the edges during the Fist of Fury trailer and a white line is there when loading up. Is it my player or the disc?

Is it something that's occurring at the absolute edges of the image using 1:1 pixel mapping? Or are you watching on a normal TV with overscan?

I'm watching on my Panasonic LCD but with the Overscan switched off

Some DVDs don't have image all the way to the edges because it wasn't really needed back then, so it could be that? Try turning overscan on to cover them up if they bother you.

It's only DVD right? If so, as Gas says.

Thanks Brad/Gas for the suggestion Yeah, its just DVD so I'll switch overscan on and see what happens.

It looks to be a clone of all the other Multi-region BD Players doing the rounds. It doesn't interest me but £99!

There was one at £19.99 in Comet a while back! can you imagine that I would have guessed it was a joke, but people took pictures of it and the price on it obviously they never lasted to long on shelves. You can almost hear people saying That must be total crap!

I do like that prices are still sorting themself out and getting nice and low, I may well go Multiregion if some of the bigger players start lowering thri bigger prices on the Multiregion Blu Ray and DVd players.

You're right. Sadly the big boys MR BD Players still cost too much. That's mostly because the likes of mrmdvd.com aren't releasing MR models of the cheaper Sony/Samsung/Panasonic etc... BD Players. The cheapest BD MR model is £309:

What's really holding BD back though, is the much higher than DVD prices for the discs. HMV in-store still cost a bomb.

I am after an Oppo Multiregion one myself for DVD and HD, but over £300 is a pain, still I have to get one in the end. Then I can get rid of a few pieces that a new player will take over from.

I still dont find Blu Ray prcies anything but great, I am paying such low prices for pretty much everything I buy, DVD was never this cheap for many, many years. Brand new titles for under £6 a matter of weeks after release is mental, I still pretty much never pay over £10, and even £10 is to much ofr me. Mind you I did pay £20 for Transformers 2 IMAX edition recently, prices like that would put me off thats for sure gladly I dont do that more than a few times a year

The thing is, you need to know where to look to get them that low and that makes BD will never become mainstream, unless things change. HMV still charge a fortune and that's where many people buy.

You asked the same question back then, so I'll repeat what I said at the time. There are 2 types of lasers: CD/DVD and Blu-ray. DVD lasers tend to be more precise though. As you already know, the PS3 is also a Blu-ray player, so Yes it will be fine (I'm sure you can find a cheaper one though). If you think you need one, give it a try. It won't do any harm. They've helped me in the past.

Romero knows as much about CD/DVD Lenses as he does Computers (not much) .

Whut? A red DVD laser is more precise than a blue Blu-ray laser? How'd you work that out?
