What's the Mad Detective disc like? I hear it's good.

I only just ordered it... so... I hear it's good

In other words; "Final cut" (Mei Ah appears more like a workprint - with one additional scene and one scene missing - although some prefer it) and correct colours (blue tint instead of Mei Ah's no tint). The image should be good and is in NTSC, btw. The subs are apparently not as good as they could be.

The dvd is cheap (10£ at amazon) and the Blu-Ray is almost the same price.

I didn't know the HK BD was a workprint, how does it differ? Thanks.

there's more info at advdg but with a spoiler warning so it's a bit difficult to read when you haven't seen the film... But apparently the HK dvd is more like a Wa Ka-fai film while the final cut is more of a Johnnie To film...

Yes, so I've read, but I never played the game. The trailer looked like good cheesy fun, though, plus there's a schoolgirl wearing a samurai-sword which had me sold in a second. I've always had a moderate thing for immature modern-day J-sploitation going on, in other words, I have a recurrent tendency to fall for the worst kinds of celluloid crap imaginable as long as it features a fancy cover-artwork.

Nah, it's among the most awesome and honestly shocking dramas I've watched in 2007. Seen it in a theater and walked out there more dead than alive, which in this occasion, is a good sign. It's certainly less exploitative than the original novel, but still a thoroughly mature drama with convincing actors. There were some truly intense moments when I suddenly thought I couldn't take it anymore, but in the end it was an absolutely rewarding experience. At other times the movie had me close to tears.

I wrote something similar after Martys. But that was only a good movie, not a excellent. One of the most memorable films of the recent years, though. One of the most powerful film of the recent centuries....

"Martyrs" was disturbing to the max but also hit home with the force of a sledgehammer. The definitve most powerful and effectively executed horror-movie this year (and maybe even those before) had to offer. I'm so glad I had that chance to watch in a theater. Totally agree.

I thought American Crime was a simplisticly scripted, cheaply plotted and directed melodrama. The real crime is morbidly fascinating in its own right (serving as a very cynical microcosm of American society) without any manipulations on the part of the storytellers, but not only do they ignore many of the actual facts in American Crime, they make the almost offensive decision to treat the death of Sylvia Likens as a cheap "shock twist" plot device.

The characterisation is also laughable, portraying Likens as a saint among one-dimensional trailer trash, and the one ambiguous character in the film - Likens' sister - is treated so inconsequentially that they almost drop her from the film altogether after the halfway point.

I'm not too poor to buy games at all. I think I spend over 800 euro in the last 2 months on 'gaming'.

I just dont care for paying for PC games when I usually get fucking fed up with the copy-protection and driver-issues and dont want DRM etc, plus I hardly play PC games when I have them anyway. (plus I hardly ever download PC games, and mostly just to try them out (and when I like them, I'll buy them for console, like FallOut3 (probably))).

So cry me a fucking river, sheepboy...
