Why did you get the IVL? Surely the only way to go is the DD.

They used some really awful old theatrical subs on the DD disc.

Thanks. I didn't know that but even so it's anamorphic. That goes ALONG way for me.

I can put up with a lot to get Anamorphic. Are they really that bad? Non-Anamorphic looks so awful, even before you get into the loss of resolution.

He's a pretentious dickhead who cant communicate with people on a normal level.

He's not pleasant, it's true. But it's really fascinating to watch him go in and turn a place around. After being insulted, the restaurant is usually inspired by Ramsay (save one or two holdouts), and the place is transformed. For some restaurants, the magic only lasts for the week Ramsay's there, but for others, it's great to see that a year later, their business is thriving, rather than being in bankruptcy.

Sure, but usually it's just very obvious stuff about why it's failing (so it's hardly an accomplishment to fix it), and it just seems to me you can also change that without hurling abuse at everyone around. If you are right, and you're not a complete idiot, you should be able to convince people you are right in a normal, civil way.

But seriously, once you get past the shock and cringe factor, the show is quite interesting. It's one thing to be able to see that a restaurant is failing because the food is awful and the management poor. It's quite another thing to have the leadership ability to go in and completely turn it around in 7 days.

Well... personally, I dont like to watch people being talked and ridiculed and bullied into the ground, especially not by some pretentious dumbass.

I dont like those 'jury' shows either, where people go to stand before a huge audience, and then get abuse thrown at them.

I can see why some people enjoy seeing that, but I dont.

Obviously, as is always the case when you have a program where people get constructive and you see a lot of changes happening and people dealing with it. It's the obnoxious cooking cock and his behaviour I cant stand.

I'm still watching, so I can't speak for the entire series. However, it does seem that there's a purpose behind his abusive insults in the first round. If the restaurant people don't fall to pieces at the first insults, Ramsay works from there, building them up and letting their strengths and talents shine and giving them confidence in their abilities. He wants them to succeed, not quit -- that's the job he's being paid to do and he intends to do it well. His M.O. is more drill sergeant than cheerleader, and it's his personal style. It works.

I loved watching Ramsay lay into the lazy bastards, but I certainly wouldn't buy it.

I paid in £ not $US, Amazon claim that the full amount shown in GBP is what I will pay (you dont want your CC company doing the exchange rate for you), when I checked it on xe.com it came out as £22.24 including shipping but maybe my CC will add to that.
Not cheapy cheap but ya know....

Anyway, the set was in Amazon's new year sale (so about $20 off).

I agree with Yi, if you're a good communicator, you should be able to put your ideas across without swearing and just SHOUTING all the time.
I havent seen much of his US series though but know the UK one.
