I've used MAC's on daily basis for over 3 years. Having said that, I still think they suck.

No brad this is my first mac but in my opinion Mac is the best operating system i've used, far more stable and light than windows. I have used windows Vista, and seriously disliked it, i tried for 3 weeks before going back to XP which i prefer by far. Its a bit more command based than windows but you soon adjust to that, a bit weird in the beginning.
Whilst the Air does only have 1 usb, its not a serious problem, the touchpad is extremely good, and the commands you can use on it work well, skipping backwards and forwards, resizing, rotating, switching programs and so on, so i really haven't found the need to attach a mouse. The lack of CD drive, again no problem, remote access drive means it can take over the drive of the nearest computer incredibly easy, and also uses virtual drives for installing stuff. and if you're working at home and need to attach more than one device, a usb hub solves this problem without much fuss.
It was a bit of a learning curve but within a couple of days i was pretty comfortable with it. The screen is good too, 13" not huge but not too small, and a pretty neat light detecting device that adjusts your screen brightness depending on the lighting conditions. What i do like is the magnetic connection device for your power lead, so if someone trips over your wire it doest send your laptop flying off the table or whatever and damaging the pins over time, it simply pulls out without any damage to you or the laptop.
The MAC OS might not be for everyone but its like vista so many have just said its crap on hear-say without actually sitting down and using it, i find it far more stable and secure than windows OS. The air is also nice and light, fits into my backpack without any fuss and doesn't feel like i'm carrying a baby elephant around.

MACs are more command based? How so?

Personally I cannot stand touchpads. I also stick in a mouse, awful things. Especially that awful function where part of it also clicks on things. I always turn that right off. That's what the buttons are for.

Lack of a CD drive wouldn't bother me, I so rarely use mine.

What made you switch to Apple MAC? Fedup with the old hat XP and hated Vista I presume? Vista has really help MAC sales. XP is a very old and outdated OS (especially compared to MAC OS), and for whatever reason people don't want Vista. Hopefully Windows 7 will be a success, it better be.

I've read about that magnetic power lead, neat idea. I wonder how they've got around the problem that historically magnets literally wiped hard disks. I bet the hard disk is shielded from this and/or the magnet isn't powerful enough.

Well said. I'm certainly not going to say MAC OS rubbish when I'm sure it isn't and I've barely ever used it. If you're basing the stability of Windows on XP, remember it's nearly a decade old, a fact XP lovers like to forget (not that I'm saying you're one of those). Personally I've found Vista much more stable (not that I found XP unstable), no contest.

That is such a big one for laptops. My brothers laptop, weighs a tonne. It's almost a desktop in the weight department

As to Vista, people better get used to it and how to use it (IMO one of the biggest problems people had, they got so use to how XP is designed). Microsoft certainly aren't going to extend XP licensing forever and Windows 7 is Vista but heavily tweaked, fundamentally it's Vista. That said it's been getting rave reviews, so it looks like they've fixed all/almost all of the big problems Vista had "at launch". UAC is still there though, just heavily held back.

One big problem with Vista sales was manufacturers selling PCs meant for XP with Vista and they were simply way under specced. This shouldn't effect Windows 7 as computer power has moved on and it's much better at turning shit off for slow PCs.

Take an example of a friend who I've just met, she had loads of problems with Vista she tells me (very slow and crashing). She went back to XP, problem sorted. I checked the amount of RAM and it has a whopping 448Mb.

This isn't an old PC but one she bought new from Comet in January 2008. Grrr! I could scream at them for selling such an under specced PC. Give it 1Gb or 2Gb (costing £30-40 tops) and her Vista speed issues at least would've disappeared.

I virtually never bought DVDs from the Mainland as DVDs/BDs from most European countries still cost a bomb, even before the financial crisis. I'm buying mostly UK DVDs/BDs as they're the only ones left where you can get a bargain (living in The UK), you cannot even really get USA bargains now.

Sounds good, so please tell me if it's worth my money. Because that other "Golgo 13"-Flick starring Sonny Chiba ("Kowloon Assignment") was an incredibly slow, convoluted and boring mess of a movie with a surprisingly annoying set of supportive characters (I didn't care about that detective-dude the least bit).

Just received my PC back. Haven't opened the box yet, cause I'll be cleaning my room first. Can't wait to have a proper PC again, although re-installing everything will most likely be a pain in the ass.
