Shojo is quite an interesting movie. Flawed and pretentious, but still fascinating. And features the best use of a French song in a Japanese film. Director / star Eiji Okuda shares a bit of resemblance to Takeshi Kitano.

Freeze Me is a great film. Brutal yet strangely beautiful rape thriller. But what does Director's Cut mean? Maybe just original version? The US and KR dvds should be avoided as they feature new, ugly english language credit sequences. It sounds small, but especially at the end (which is really powerful, the kind of scene you have to digest for several minutes) it really hits against your face when the names of english dub artists suddenly play on top of live footage, of course in gigantic ugly font.

I need to get Blue Spring, too. I haven't seen any of Toshiaki Toyoda's films. Hanging Garden co-stars Anne Suzuki.

Which edition of Porno Star is that? DE? The R2J is oop and the US is non-amamorphic. And DE is probably NTSC to PAL

As for Shadow Hunters, do also get Demon Spies. It's more or less up the same alley, only concentrating on ninjas (while Shadow Hunters is about men slaughtering ninjas). I need to rewatch all of these films soon.

Cute boyband members and lookalikes = quality cinema.

Steam had a 50% off sale on this game, stunning graphics and interesting gameplay. Reminds me of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, except nowhere near as good.

Don't worry, the "Director's Cut" means nothing. It's something the Company does frequently with more violent asian releases, it just means it's uncut.

It's the german DVD, which is pretty much OOP, too. and NTSC to PAL has never bothered me. It should be anamorphic, I've read different things, though, so I'm not exactly sure. But it's Rapid Eye Movies, and usually they've got quality releases.

"Blue Spring" is awesome, and so is "Pornostar". Seen the latter a few years back when I still wasn't as deep in Japanese Cinema as I'm now, but there are certain things I remember from it, which assure me, that it's the kind of movie I just have to own.

Thank you, I will do that. I love the "Shadow Hunter" movies, they're fast-paced, action-packed and full of exploitative bits (not the nasty kind, but the fun sort of exploitation). I watched both of them with my father who liked them, too.

I also love the "Death Note" movies, and I most certainly will buy them someday. Maybe I'm getting the UK myself, or I'm waiting for a german release. I'm still considering. Still haven't watched "Change the world", though.

Haven't watched "Woman of the Dunes" yet, but I did see "Onibaba", which without question is one of the greatest movies ever made. One of those rare vintage flicks with a timeless quality. The last 10 minutes where so intense they left me with goosebumps.

"Sister Streetfighter"-Set is on DVD. I don't care about Blu-Ray, but I might be considering, when "Final Fantasy: Advent Children - Complete Edition" will finally hit the shelves. Not because it's Blu-Ray, mind, just because "FF:AC-Complete" won't be released on DVD in the first place.

Onibaba is very good, I agree What country is the Sister Streetfighter set from? I really enjoyed the Chiba films

It's the US-Box-Set from BCI Eclipse/Ronin Entertainment, Region 1.
Anamorphic Widescreen, original 1:2,35 ratio, and I found the transfers pretty good and clean and all (just the last one, "Fifth Level Fist" seemed a little dirtier), but then again I find almost everything watchable you guys are bitching about.

Except for "Fifth Level Fist" (which is pretty slow and tedious and different and NOT so sexy and violent at all) they're all equally awesome, hugely entertaining Karate-Exploitation.

Toei's Fifth Level Fist also features more print damage than the other films. Thankfully it doesn't distact you from enjoying this great, cute and good spirited action film.

Yes, but looks funny and ignorant when you use the phrase "any good?" when referring to films that are generally considered masterpieces or huge classics.

I know you weren't trying to get me to change, Brad I know you think I'm absolutely perfect just the way I am.

GIMP does get mentioned quite regularly in 'professional magazines', like 3d World and Imagine FX and such. I haven't really looked into what it can actually do as far as drawing/painting/coloring etc is concerned, although I did watch some youtube vids, but it was hard to judge the quality of the program when the quality of the artist wasnt all that impressive.

No subs for Izumi. But it's a Toei TV high school sukeban bazooka action series. Ok, got that?

Very impressive dvd order you got there, except that Iwai's Godly masterwork All About Lily Chou Chou deserves more than HVE's piece of crap transfer. You should've bought the R2J, or the Thai disc which is a port. My subs - now remastered thrice - are parfection and reportedly work with the Thai disc as well.

As for the Suzuki films, a lot of those are on my shopping list, too. Gate of Flesh is brilliant. Director's like Shunya Ito were obviously inspired by some of the imagery in GoF (and other Suzuki films, of course)

All About Lily Chou Chou has always looked really interesting but all English friendly DVDs suck, so I've never bothered.

How come you went for the Region 1 Grim?isn't the same edition out here cheaper?
