Some of them look amazing

Wet Desire is one of those overrated Kumashiro films. Best movie of the year award and even on Kinema Junpo's recent top 50 Japanese movies of all time list. But it's a pretty dry slice of life drama. Ichiro Sayuri's (paying herself in the film) Hibotan bakuto performance is worth seeing, though. And of course Kumashiro's films always feature good cinematography and use of music...

Inferno of Torture on the other hand is brilliant and beautiful... no doubt Ishii's most poetic exploitation film. The Japan Shock dvd should also be rather ok (compared to their usual standards).

Uncle's Paradise features some very memorable and funny moments. The director, Shinji Imaoka (who was present at the screening I attended), also has talent. He could easily be a succesful non-pink indie director.

Shogun's Ninja is great of you can get past the "porno jazz" soundtrack. But the scene with Chiba with two ninjas on his shoulders is magical...

The Execution films are great fun too. I used them as depression medecine a month ago and they were quite effective. And although the R1 The Killing Machine isn't technically as right as the UK disc, I also prefer it because the "schoolgirl riding a bicycle" scene looks better in stronger colors.

I've been considering getting Dai nipponjin, too. Very funny, very dry (in a positive way) comedy and fake documentary about a man fighting giant monsters.

And Gozu has been on my shopping list forever. I once saw caps of the R4 and it looked great (it's NTSC instead of PAL, btw).

And as for TGP, please review the extras. There should be 40 minutes worth of short films.

No different titles but a couple of ways to spell it.

Are those 3 Chiba films comparable to The Street Fighter?

The Executiner is one of Chiba's meanest films. The sequel is one of Chiba's funniest films. And The Killing Machine is a bit more serious martial arts movie.

Out of the Street Fighter films, I think I liked The Street Fighter and Return best But all in the Trilogy are good

On the Nippon Connection, during that Pinku Eiga Retrospective I more or less attended, I had the chance to ask Mamoru Watanabe a few questions. He's one of the leading persons in the Pink Genre, a Pioneer even, now about 80 years old and has made over 300 movies. He's pretty respectable and dignified person. So among other things I asked him about one personal favorite movie he has made himself, and one Pink title from another director, that may have influenced him in some way or other, or he rather just likes better than others. "Sayuri" was the one he mentionend, while from his own work he prefers "Hot Spring Resort: Starfish at Night", which I also saw and which plays a little bit like a 60-minute version of Shohei Imamura's "The Pornographers", albeit with more nudity.

Therefore I'm looking forward to "Wet Desire" very much. From what I've seen so far (caught a few scenes during a TV-screening) it's a rather fascinating piece of work.

Funny! I used that term "Porno Jazz" myself once, when I reviewed Etsuko Shihomi's "Dragon Princess" for a German forum. Actually one of the things I absolutely love about 70s Karate-Movies, respectively Pinky Violence flicks.

Boogiepop at Dawn - The first three novels in the series were brilliant, too bad this was the last one that they translated.

I imported the US BD of The Shining too, I don't want a shortened-to-please-the-critics version It doesn't drag at all either. Not sure if I've ever seen the international version to be honest.

Those "Ginza Butterfly"-DVDs I'm gonna buy as well. Beware though, that "Exte" isn't gruesome as hell (like they wrote on the cover), but rather a tongue-in-cheek take on all the cliches from Japanese Ghost movies you can think of. Saw this on a festival two years ago, and it's certainly a pretty wild Fun & Suspense ride, but since this is Sion Sono, be prepared for some really, really, really strange and bizarre events. Chiaki Kuriyama is great as usual, though.

What's the last one? Something with "Sailor Suit" in the title, so much I can read.

Yep. The euro/yen conversion rate is an ass, but the economic crisis thankfully doesn't affect on my student supports. I'm pretty good at saving on other areas (copy all school books instead of buying, steal meat balls from home reqularly, use bicycle instead of car, don't smoke etc.) and make some money by selling used dvds. And work every now and then.

And make some profit by selling dvds... Finally got a buyer for the last remaining copy (aside my own) of Azumi Deluxe edition... 32€. I bought a few of these last summer for about 12€ each.

I remember selling an Azumi L.E. for £70 still have one on my shelf, one day I may sell it if it comes to HD.
