I was hoping for something really good from Ang Lee but this bored to tears and frustration, so tedious and unengaging.

No offence, but your taste in films are so weird to me, are you sure you're not Hung (or Tom)?

Lust, Caution is excellent IMO. It's really annoying there is no HD Disc. I was gripped from beginning to end. The intrigue works brillaintly and the acting by all is excellent. Tony Leung looked incredible for someone in their forties too.

"28 Weeks Later" - 2.5/5
Somewhat entertaining till the halfway mark where I got tired of the pretty girl and lens flare. Too many plotholes and clichés - I know it's a 'zombie' film but they could at least try something original.

National Treasure (blu-ray) 3.5/5

An enjoyable adventure romp starring Nicholas Cage. probably a tad overlong and lacking a really big,kick ass action scene this is neverless always entertaining and i'm looking forward to watching the sequel,probably tomorrow,i hear it's equally as good (or bad if yu didn't like the first) the blu-ray offers a solid but unspectacular transfer.

Saw that some years ago and thought it was nearly unbearable.

Beowulf Director's Cut blu-ray 3/5

i went into this with low expectations but found it surprisingly enjoyable.a couple of great monster battles and a simple but fast moving story means the near 2 hr running time never drags.great transfer on this one.

it's a uk release and has English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 & Dolby Digital 5.1 in english/castellan/french/german/italian

National Treasure 2:Book Of Secrets blu-ray 3/5

Ok sequel offers nothing new but like the first is always entertaining.Ed Harris in villain mode is always a bonus.

Black Snake Moan hd-dvd 2/5

I'd heard this was decent but i found it pretty heavy going.decent performances but very average.goes an extra half star for Christina Ricci getting them out a couple of times.

Sweeney Todd:Demon Barber Of Fleet Street blu-ray 3.5/5

Very good Tim Burton adaption of the Stephen Sondheim musical.Extremely well acted and Burton captures the griminess of the London of the time well.Extremely gory (is this the first 18 rated musical?) i didn't think the songs though well performed were particularly memorable.The transfer was mostly good though i did notice a couple of instances of what i would call aliasing.

Dreamworks presents Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 in this anamorphically enhanced transfer. On the positive side, the print used for the transfer is completely free from any kind of blemishes, dirt, and scratches. The ever present blacks are deep and the image handles the contrast between black and white nicely. However, the transfer suffers terribly from ringing around the edges of objects and faces, and mosquito noise. The wide shots in particular have very noticeable ringing. Take a look at the scene where Mrs. Lovett first brings Sweeney Todd into the flat above her shop. The edges of the door frame has obvious stair stepping, Sweeney's fright wig has ringing, and the wallpaper has macroblocking. Luckily, most of the film doesn't get that bad, but a film this recent (and this artistically important) really deserves nothing less than the best."

Street Kings (USA, 2008) – 3/5
Lets get the bad out of the way; the lack of originality. A little bit of Training Day there, a bit more Friedkin here, a whole lot more of everything you’ve seen in before everywhere, and the cast in the roles they’ve been playing most of their careers... It’s a shame, but the film has kick. In fact, even with the flaws Street Kings is one of the few (only?) memorable US cop film of the decade. It captures the spirit of its time well, similarly to Deep Cover (early 90s) and To Live and Die in L.A. (80’s). There’s no cgi gunfights and hardly any one liner loaded buddy comedy or other teen stuff. Just a dynamic crime thriller that gets darker scene by scene (a bit similarly to Running Scared). Wooden man Keanu Reeves is fit for this sort of roles, and Forest Whitaker’s King of L.A. show doesn’t feel too out of place (perhaps because I haven’t seen Scotland). Make no mistake, this is a Hollywood film, but it’s a rather good one.
