How great to see the American filmmakers aren´t running out of ideas.

I'd like the original film to see western DVD releases. The Lake House came, but there's still no western release of Ill Mare. I don't get it, just becuz they ain't part of the three Asian Extreme genres or from acclaimed arthouse filmmakers (eg WKW, Zhang, Chen) doesn't mean that they won't sell.

I wonder if Gurinder Chadha is still attached to direct the remake? It's surprising that she'd make a film without some Indian/Pakistani story elements (that's all she's done up until now).

Would be great if The Departed has a lot of success (and it will have success, with this all-star cast), wins a few oscars and they decide to remake parts 2 and 3 as well(I guess than I´ll be going to kill somebody! :shock: :shock: :shock: ).

If I was to remake movies, I´d take movies that had good ideas, but were done bad. No one needs remakes of good movies!

EXACTLY right!! Has that even been done before with an Asian film?
I can't think of any..

However, the other problem is that i don't think Hollywood would ever remake an Asian film and make it superior. For example, i would love to see Antarctic Journal remade...because i thought it had some VERY cool themes and had extreme potential..but there were just so many minor flaws with the script that the execution fell through in some aspects.
I still really like the movie...but i think with a better script, it could be alot better.

Now dispite all this, i would NOT want that to be remade by Hollywood, because it would never work. Anywone who has seen the movie must know what i mean.

Anyway, i honestly cannot think of any Asian films offhand that i can imagine Hollywood improving with a remake.

Maybe instead of remaking Battle Royale, they can remake Battle Royale II.

Remake of Wes Craven's controversial (and shit) debut film The Last House on Left.


Rogue Pictures, the genre arm of Universal, has signed a deal to remake Wes Craven's debut film THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. The graphic and intense original, which followed the brutal rape and torture of two girls in the words, was released in 1972 and banned repeatedly in the UK as well as getting an X-rating from the MPAA. Craven will produce the remake with Sean Cunningham who also produced the original. The remake will follow the same storyline - girls get kidnapped, raped, tortured and their killers unwittingly run into their parents who look to exact revenge. It's unclear if it will still be set in the 70s or will move to modern day. Craven, who made the original for $90,000, says the most of his other directing projects like SHOCKER and PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS are also in talks to be remade. I was watching SHOCKER last night by coincidence and I'm not sure it's worthy of a remake. But PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS? I could definitely see that. Rogue Pictures is looking to start production on the film in early 2007.

The Clive Barker site Revelations just posted a startling bit of news: The man himself is going to be scripting a remake his own seminal 1987 horror film HELLRAISER, and he’ll be doing it for Dimension, which has churned out a series of often only tangentially related Pinhead movies over the last decade. The new movie will be made for “a lot more money,” Barker tells the site, “and they’ve invited me to write it—the invitation came from Bob Weinstein—which I am going to do, on the basis that if I don’t do it, it will be done in some way that I probably won’t like! It’s only that [original film] that I really, really, really care about in terms of its remake value—and it’ll be kind of fun to have the extra money to do the effects and all that cool stuff.

“So it puts me in the situation of writing both the beginning and the end of Pinhead at the same time—‘In my end is my beginning…’ I’m excited about it—actually, it’ll be kinda cool to revisit it once and see if there are things we can do to it which will make it significantly better. I wouldn’t wish to direct—I only want to write and be a part of the producing team. I wouldn’t want to revisit something that I did as a director, something I made all those years ago; that would be too, in a way, painful—not painful but weird, difficult, strange… I am very happy at the idea of having some more money for the cool stuff—I don’t know how much more money, but it’s got to be more than the $900,000 that we had the first time!” Needless to say, we’ll keep a close watch on this project and let you know anything else we find out!

The Last House on Left is 100% pure bile, an appauling film in every single way unless you love rape the gore is pap, the sex is hiderous and the acting and general look of the film is shit. No ned to remake that kind of film in any way.

I quite like Last House and let us not forget it is a remake - unofficial of course! - of The Virgin Sprint. I don't think a remake will do any good - Last House belongs to a time where you could make these cheap, nasty little pictures that looked so ameteur they could almost be real

According to DragonsDenUK, MediaAsia just sold the rights for Johnnie To's Exiled.

Media Asia have sealed a deal for a Hollywood remake of the recent Johnnie To hit, 'Exiled'. Samuel Hadida ('Silent Hill') has been bought on board to produce and he revealed that he his intends to turn the film into a big-budget action flick. Is no Hong Kong film safe anymore?
