Yup, I'm getting one.
£179 isn't bad. I was guessing £149 for the machine, but the £179 includes the sports game as well, so it's not bad.
I personally can't wait for this thing. The user interface (here I go again
) looks so simple to use, this'll be the first thing that one might legitimately be able to say, "My mum could use that."

Bit long, but worth it for the cute girls
Good idea about selling the GC on... depends on how much we'd get for it though. If it's peanuts, then I'd keep it for my own personal console burial ground

Yeah I would like to get this as well. Looks really really good, but many people are saying this is not a true next gen console, but really an advancement in playing games. So good luck to Nintendo on that. It would be an interesting battle to see how the XBox360 and Wii get on. Playstation have really shot themselves in the foot, by delaying the PS3, and it bloody expensive as well. I heard the price would be around 300-500 quid!!!. One thing Playstation has got, it software support, Square, Konami, Capcom. Let hope these company come back to Nintendo for a while

I've heard the Wii no longer has DVD playback
Not that it bothers me as I have a player anyway, would this put the average person off?

Josh says "The Wii no longer has DVD Playback".
Also another thing that confuses me is will we (in Europe/UK) have US/JP games available to download on the Virtual Console?
If I can't play Super Mario RPG I will cry

Wii Sports sounds pretty cool:
http://www.n-sider.com/newsview.php?typ ... oryid=2431In Wii Tennis, we'd like to clear up certain assumptions about movement on the tennis course. First of all, you will need to determine and use the required swing. For example, if the ball coming towards you requires a backhand swing, you will miss it if you don't perform a backhand swing. Meaning, you can't just wildly hit the ball no matter what kind of swing you do. The game fully maps every swing. It even maps whether you follow your swing the whole way through. Another important note is that while there is no 1:1 movement, there are options to move across the court. For example, you can decide to play the backcourt or play the net. I don't recall how this was performed, but I believe by stabbing the Wii remote forward you move your character closer to the net. This is crucial to those thinking there was no court placement strategy in the game because there is.
Wii Baseball kind of plays like Mario Baseball. It isn't just a homerun derby. You can get singles and put a man on base. Then you have the opportunity to bring the man home by scoring another hit. You keep offense until you get three outs. Then you switch. Nintendo also added the ability to pitch against your opponent, making it a two-sided affair now. You can throw a screw ball, fast ball, and curve ball. And it isn't as easy to hit a homerun as past videos have shown.
Wii Boxing is the only Wii Sports game to use the Wiimote and the Nunchuk. While you don't move your character, you control the blocks and evades while you also control your left/right strikes. Jabs, hooks, and uppercuts are all mapped out accurately. The game is definitely a throwback to Punch-Out under the Wii Sports banner. This one is sure to be a huge hit.
The entire WiiSports line-up has an interesting presentation style almost mimicking an ESPN telecast. Replays and constant Wii Sports banners are shown during gameplay. Wii Sports also has some amazing textures -- real-time shadowing and nice reflections. The textures are what really makes this game graphically next-gen. Finally, in regards to gameplay, there is much mystery as to how deep and well presented a full single player session will be. Stay tuned for more details.

It's pretty small.
To be honest, I don't mind 'em cutting out the DVD playback. Back when the PS2 was released, it was nowhere as common, so it was a valuable selling point. But with bog-standard DVD players available for £30 from Tesco's and the like, it's not as important a feature to have anymore.
I certainly don't need another DVD player.
As for the downloads, I sure they are available for customers worldwide. I think we get 15 downloads in the UK at launch, with obviously more to follow. Pricing, if I remember rightly, is £3.50 for the old NES games, £5 (ish) for SNES games, and £7.50 for N64.

A PAL only Virtual Console has far less appeal, on the SNES, Europe missed out on many classics like Super Mario RPG, which I really wanted to play

Nintendo UK has confirmed to Eurogamer that the Wii's region locking will extend to GameCube games.
A company spokesperson also said that Virtual Console game releases would not be universal - in other words, European gamers will get European versions of the games.
The news paints a slightly clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding Wii's backwards compatibility in the run-up to the console's 8th December launch.
The console is known to be compatible with all GameCube software, and peripherals including controllers and memory cards, while Virtual Console will deliver titles from systems including NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Megadrive and TurboGrafx at the rate of around 10 per month.

In answering our queries, culled from some of your recent forum threads, Nintendo also said that it expects to release RGB and component video cables that fit current pricing models.
It declined to comment on recent reports, supposedly surfacing in Nintendo Power, that Virtual Console will also host Commodore 64 games in future.

Ahh Grim there is one rule I stick to and also advise to our clientsgrim_tales wrote:Yeah there could be a freeloader for Wii but it might not be immediately.
1. Never use the first build of a console/program as there are bound to be teething problems in forms of bugs or component parts
I would purchase the Wii when it becomes more stable, like a years time, that why there is more s/ware to sample and it has been fully tested

Oh yeah, the first version of the Cube freeloader was not stable, the 2nd was OK.
Assuming the emulation is 100%, the 'Cube freeloader should work with the Wii, no? The VC is an emulator, so again we don't know what the emulation will be like, they might be full speed/full screen?
I remember those dark days when European games had ugly black borders and no 60 Hz option

I think Nintendo bought the games and the rights to them completely. Hence, they'd be able to sell them on VC. Technically, Nintendo could still sell these games at stores.
The people who were responsible for the original "Perfect Dark" and "Golden Eye" have left Rareware and have formed Free Radical. This explains why "Time Splitters" or "Second Sight" are such awesome games.

HAHA, no. I play them on my Xbox.thelostdragon wrote:Roms? And play them on PC? No thanks.
Goldeneye has dated badly control wise, no digital aiming really sucks after getting used to using analogue aiming for console gaming. Goldeneye didn't even have a Turok 2-esque control scheme, which was the optimal FPS control setup on N64.
