Nah I would not do it to people in real life, only under extreeeeem conditions like protectings ones self or someone else etc.. takes a lot to get me to vent my anger on someone else physically, I ussually just verbally abuse them then they come at me.

We all forgot about a movie that's supposedly another animated classic: Rattatouille!

I didn't.

I forgot "Flushed Away" I think I saw that this year - average.

How could I forget the fantastic Dreamgirls.

I'm sure that was released in the UK this year. Did anyone else here see this? It's barely been mentioned yet it's an excellent film. Now I think about it I'd put it in the number 1 spot of films I've seen this year (that were released this year), number 2 would be Bourne 3.

So 4/5 decent titles then:

Dreamgirls
Bourne Ultimatum
Zodiac
Apocalypto

And Transformers

I was wondering why my "HD To Buy List" has so few titles from this year (it's mostly made up of titles to upgrade) and this is why.

It seems we may have been a bit premature with our ascertain that 2007 is thw worst year for decent films, or at least I have.

As per usual it is not Summer that brings the real and exciting work but Autumn. "Lions For Lambs" looks excellent and has had mostly favourable reviews. I'll probably be seeing it this week.

This Friday we have both "American Gangster" which looks awesome and has been receiving some good but some bad reviews. We also have "Bricklane" which looks the best of the three by a country mile and has received excellent reviews.

At the end of the month we have "The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" which I was lucky to see during a recent film festival. It's slow, moody, probably 20 minutes to long and for a Western has none of the usual big scale gun fights (so don't go in expecting one) but apart from my feeling it is 20 minutes to long (at 160 minutes) it is all the better for it.

I usually find narration annoying but here it works really well. The Cinematography is excellent, especially when Jesse James holds up a train. Brad Pitt as Jesse James is brilliant as is Casey Affleck as Robert Ford is also great.

This is a Western for the thinking man!

Some say it's too long, with too much focus on important side-characters and too little focus on the 2 people from the title, and that the narrating-voice could become to be one of the most hated narration-voices in movie-history, as it's TOO present, talking when it's not needed.

American Gangster is getting criticisms because it's nota true portrayal of that gangster. They Hollywooded him up, while the real deal was an illiterate cruel mean vindictive asshole...

Havent heard much about Lions for Lambs yet. I know it's a political movie starring a Redford who looks like he has had plastic surgery to look like a GI JOE doll, and Meryll Streep...

But personally I'm more excited about another Meryll Streep movie: Dark Matter. About a chinese exchange student who is really smart, gets things done, others take the credit for it, and he cant stand it and takes matters into his own, violent hand.
There's a trailer for it over on stage 6, but that site is under construction at the moment, so cant give a link yet...

Don't forget Brick Lane which is getting rave reviews.

Regardless my main point was even the worst of these films is probably way better than the dross we had over the summer.

Yes Jesse James is too long and yes it does spend some time with the supporting characters but I wouldn't say it too long. It helps to give the story more depth.

That's a load of crap, it worked really well. It's no Blade Runner narration.

Meryll Streep is an excellent actress. It's good to see her in decent (possibly) roles again.

Lions For Lambs has been receiving a lot of negative reviews... apparently it's left-wing arse that bored even the lefties. Why does Redford feel the need to lecture people instead of tell a good story and let us work it out for ourselves??

It does at least start to show us even the Americans have realised how bad a president Bush is. It's a pity they took so long to realise it though.

I don't see any harm preaching if it's done well and isn't ham fisted. The "done well" part being crucial. Kermode gave it a good review but I do know many aren't. I'm still keen to see it.

American Gangster is decent but no classic and certainly no keeper.overlong to boot.doesn't help that i can't stand Russell Crowe.has Redford made a decent movie,either directing or acting in the last 20 years? Spy Game was ok but the likes of Out Of Africa is overrated tosh.

I hear Spy Game is excellent. Horse Whisperer and Indecent Proposal are decent. Indecent Proposal is one of those guilty pleasures for me.

Regardless I still say he's a decent actor.

i like him in the Sting and i thought Brubaker was pretty good.Butch Cassidy is overrated.

The trouble with this particular in general is American Gangster will undoubtedly go against the heavy weights of the genre which are so flipping outstanding (maybe more so than any other genre) it's almost for sure going to disappoint and hasn't got a chance to even be liked.

I'm not expecting Goodfellas just something decent. Take Narc for example that is no Goodfellas but it's still excellent. I'm definitely seeing it Friday/Saturday. Probably Saturday as The Johny Ross show is on Friday nights.

Empire is the last film I'd seek out for a top 25

I've only seen 5 of their top 25. Agreed it is a very me mediocre top 25.

You cannot have a Top 25 of 2007 without Dreamgirls or Brick Lane.

21. Sunshine - Good. Great visuals and awesome soundtrack. Becomes kinda weird at the end.

13. Inland Empire - Biggest and longest piece of garbage I sat through in the past few years.

I've only seen one film from that list (HOT FUZZ-enjoyable enough).

I just don't care about most movies now.

They bore me.

I used to go to the cinema every week when I was at school/college.

Now I go maybe twice a year.

As for EMPIRE.... They used to be a great mag back in the early days but now it's a rag.

Very rarely does a new release come along that I think "yeah, I wanna go pay to see this". I've rented a few movies on DVD that I woudn't have bothered with at the cinema. I find most films now of little interest. The actors, the directors, the topics, the styles... all bore me much of the time.
