That is impressive. My HD-DVD Trilogy Box set was even more impressive at £17.99 from Sendit.com though

Matrix link shows £59.99 now and btw that set contains the cut version of the first film.

Yep all DVDs of The Matrix in the UK are cut. Only the UK HD-DVD is uncut.

* SFMV is a new 2 Disc SE not available outside of the box set. It also has a new Film to PAL transfer not on either single disc DVD.
* Oldboy features Disc 1 and Disc 3 from th USA LE Tin. So you lose the deleted scenes but gain the HUGE documentary, it's something like that anyway.
* SFLV is a new 2 Disc SE not available outside of the box set. It drops the Colour version in place of the Fade to Black version.

Personally I wanted both SFLV cuts so didn't bother but otherwise it's a fantastic box set (the worlds best if you want English subtitled extras) and I'd definitely hold on to it too.

Personally I think Planet of the Apes and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (Part 4) are excellent and the rest are just okay. Escape from the Planet of the Apes (Part 3) is pretty good 70s fun but Parts 2 and 5 especially are pretty poor.

I already own the original box set and it's enough for me. They're already anamorphic/uncut/in the correct aspect ratio which are the main things. I imagine the new DD5.1 for the sequels (R1 SE box sets only) don't offer much over the Mono. The best extra from the SE box set is still the 2 Hour Behind the Planet of the Apes Documentary which is part of all box sets anyway.

If I didn't already own it I too would get the new R1 Remastered SE box set. I never had any interest in the 14 disc box set. I probably will upgrade to a BD box set when one comes. Even though I don't think all are great I still have a soft spot for them.

The 2001 Remake got the Ape look and Walk so right but was otherwise so poor, and completely removed all the dark undertones of the original.

i have the old set as well but i take the view i could easy get a tenner for it on ebay allowing me to upgrade to this new set at a cost of £6ish.plus the Battle version is the extended,apparently better version.no-brainer really.

Oh yeah I forgot about that extended cut, more reason to be annoyed the PAL SE box set doesn't feature the new DVDs.

I could do the same but I doubt Extended Battle of the Planet of the Apes suddenly makes it a good film. I also don't like to upgrade endlessly as it gets a bit silly. The PAL Non-SE box set is generally fine anyway. I doubt the Remastered jobs are staggeringly better, especially now BDs will come at some point and it's not as if the R1 is a Bargain price.

No. It's certainly a fair price but £10-12 I'd consider a bargain. If it was £10-12 I'd possibly jump on it as a bargain but £16 is about normal for a box set of it's age.

Maybe a little but it's more to do with being deliberately picky as I already own more than enough DVDs really and it is a pain to upgrade all the time.

The extended Battle does improve the film but not much. I enjoy it but it's a case of low budget and poor scriptwriting letting down a film. But damn, the music for it is sublime!
