Just watched it and I agree it's not a keeper, so slow and boring.
Not one of Kurosawa's best, but not boring for a second. Nakadai is brilliant, as always.

I agree its not boring but I had to pay close attention - Nakadai is excellent in his role as you say Hung.

Ordered 2 Batman books last week from Amazon, which are supposedly scheduled to arrive tomorrow. (Black Mirror HC and the new 'Owls' run by Snyder, also HC)

Also still waiting for the Hara-Kiri BR from zavvi, but they're usually pretty damn slow, so I'll just wait and see...

edit: received my 2 Batman books. Both not wrapped, but luckily not damaged or anything, so I'm happy.

Requiem for a Vampire US Blu-ray
Guilty of Romance HK Blu-ray: Unfortunately this is just a bootleg of the Eureka release so I've contacted the seller, I want to see the Japanese cut God damn it :(

Also received the new Total Recall UK Blu-ray the other day, the PQ is good and the new interview with Paul Verhoeven is very enjoyable.

Still haven't received Hari-Kiri. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow, or else I'll mail them next week. It's not that I'm in a hurry to watch it, or that it was expensive, but it's just annoying these packages take so very very long, while Amazon usually get their shit at my doorstep within a week, and postage is free with them (when the order is above 25 pounds).

Well, if it takes much longer for Hara-Kiri to arrive, I'll just go on Youtube and follow the tutorials there...(!)

There's new stuff like a selected-scene audio commentary with Jonze and Gondry, documentary, interviews etc. but the main thing for me is it has a new transfer supervised and approved by Spike Jonze and he says that it's finally got the correct colours, whereas they couldn't manage it on the DVD.

Shit, didn't even know this was out already.

Haven't even watched my DVD yet cause of the 4 hour running-time...

Let us know how the AV-quality of the BR is.

I've just been checking it out and it's definitely worth the upgrade, the DVD is interlaced & jerky because it's NTSC to PAL, the sound is much better too in its new 5.1 HD form. I examined the bit where a dick gets cut off because Third Window had to splice in a bit from their other master due to the new director-approved master (he's fixed the colours) having pixelisation over the erection, and you can see that it switches back to an interlaced version (strange motion and combing effect), but definitely better than it being censored.

P.S. Don't let its running time put you off, it really does fly by.

Thanks :) Sounds good. Not that excited about 5.1 though. I usually just play the sound through my TV cause I don't have a soundsystem, and 5.1 usually means some shit is loud while other shit sounds muted, cause it's meant to come from another direction or whatever. It can be extremely annoying.

I'm not really scared of watching a 4 hour movie being too long, but usually I either get restless OR I fall asleep. Kinda annoying.

Am I right when I understand you're saying that the director went in and censored a dick using pixelation, and the UK release removed that censorship by quickly cutting in the uncensored footage from the earlier release!?

I received my Hara-Kiri BR today BTW, so that was good news. :)

No the director didn't censor it, it's just Japanese censorship, and yeah Third Window already had an older HD version so just used the uncensored bit from that in this new colour-corrected master.
