IMO Tarantino and very much like the Wachowski's had too much money and say. Both Kill Bill and Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions are 1 movie and have material strong enough for 1 movie but both sets of directors have egos bigger than Uranus, so were able to add hours of padding around well 1 movie.
If Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions had been 1 movie it would've been a stonking ride (like The Matrix) and same goes for Kill Bill Vol. 2, there was so much padding which ordinarily would've ended up on the cutting room floor. Tarantino put the majority of the good footage in Kill Bil Vol. 2 which left little left for a second half.
Kill Bill Vol. 2 a Tarantino film, bollocks (IMO). It's long, dull and has a shit ending.

Vol.2 was too short. But I guess he only wanted the include those scenes that were pure perfection. Like the best ending in action movie history.

Bradavons gonna hate Quentins Grindhouse film then, it was suposed to be 45 minutes long and its ending up 2 hours long, dragged out again

let it be 3 hours for all I care, please!
Hung I am not sure if your joking or not about that ending
I would love to see some of the cut stuff, loads has been talked about and really massive sections fo the film were cut and entire charecters. I also would love to see the amination section for Kill Bill Vol 2, they made it so please release it! grrr. It may have helped the film a little

Not joking. It's absolutely perfect. Beautiful. Original. So great it almost makes me cry every time I see it. Not because it's sad but because it's pure perfection.

I didn't know they made anime for Vol.2. And in case you didn't know, the swordfight ending and the gogo's sister episode (the John Woo tribute) was never shot. I thought they used almost all the footage they shot. Maybe I was wrong???

The best ending in action movie history??? There's barely any action. I can't believe you think it's better than all the other action films out there action ending wise.
My god then you're easily pleased. Original? Kill Bill by design is an homage from lots of other films, how is it remotely original? It was too short? The full film was 3 Hours!!!

Is that the Mandarin one?
I'll check it out as QT is interesting and great more than he's not (RD, PF, JB and KB V1 are all very good). It does sound worrying though.
Sure I loved KB V1 but I do wish he'd get back to making proper films, JB was almost 10 years ago!

I said the ending was original. Well, maybe not That original but it was something I wasn't expecting. Another long fight scene would've been much less effective. And I think it might have even ruined the ending. The whole last 40 minutes is so fantastic and well built that a big action scene at the end would've been out of place and ruined the mood. The worst part of the ending is actually the moment when they decide they have to fight. The fight itself is great, and what follows is probably the greatest death scene ever, but there's definitely a fraction in the "mood" when the movie changes from drama to action movie and back to drama. Those are like separate parts that are all perfect on their own but can't be tied together perfectly. But it's still basically perfect, better than anything anyone else has ever done in the genre.
And why do you think an action movie needs to have an action paced ending?

Brad sits in shock.

It doesn't per say but when the whole premise and build up is killing Bill to get what he got was a MAJOR let down.

You just don't get it
It's unfortunate that Bill indeed need to be killed. Not because that's the title or the plot, but because there's no other way out from the final episode. That's the only way I can think of to end the movie. But it wouldn've been fantastic if Tarantino had found a way to end the movie without killing him...
No, wait, I just came up with a perfect ending. End the movie with The Bride and Bill sitting around the table, before any of that "we have unfinished business" shit. Just them sitting there quietly and then black screen and The End. That's how I would've ended the film. But I would've missed all the perfection that followed the fight...

I would've been perfectly okay if they had filmed the first third only. It was the best third anyway. And the ending was very good. Unlike the ending of RotK.
I can understand why they wanted to show different perspectives, the end of Frodo's journey, Sam's journey etc, but it went on to long especially in the EE, ending - is this it? Fade to black, another one, fade to black, etc.
It didnt stop the film from being superb overall though.
Brad I think Vol 2 was maybe Tarantino's homage to Sergio Leone (making the film long)

I might the Japanese version of Vol 1 next month but just the normal DVD of Vol 2. The Japanese box would take up too much space.

The ending went on for too long in both versions (a friend forced me to watch the extended cut, too).
I was just hoping Frodo would fall into the volcano but no... And then they missed another great chance to end the story: When Frodo (and probably Sam, too, can't remember) have destroyed the ring they get surrounded by lava. The story should've ended there. That would've been such great and beautiful ending, but then that old witch came with his flying bird and ruined everything...

I have the standard edition for Vol.1 but the Box Set for Vol.2. They were less than 30€ delivered at amazon exactly a year ago. Ordered three, sold two for about 45€ each and kept one for myself. But I see your point, nowadays I also dislike huge box sets because they take too much space. It has to be something special to win me over

@hung,
Jackson tried to stay true to the books and AFAIK this is how they ended, it gave frodo a chance to finish off the book the bilbo started "there and back again a hobbits tale" to end it differnetly to the book would have been a whole waste of film, and make jacksons work prevoisuly inthe film, to keep it close to the book, pointless
that said from what i've read so far (3/4 way through TTT) he has missed bits out, like the encounter with Tom Bomadil, the Barrow Wight etc. but as far as it goes in movies its stands closer to the book than most.

Kill Bill They did indeed shoot a lot more footage and made another anime section to part 2, it was all dumped sadly. So it is out there and maybe we will get to see it one day. The anime for part 2 was the history of Vernita Green/Copperhead and hell the footage cut sounded great, but hey until we see it we cannot say for sure
I will buy the films again thats for sure when they one day do proper dvds with extras!
and hey Lord of the Rings ends well considering the 10 hours you just sat thru to get there

now them 3 films are perfect, hell yes too many endings, but still doesnt dint a perfect triolgy

Knowing that still doesn't make the ending any more enjoayble...

Ah, I remember now. I didn't know if it was shot or not, but I remember having heard about that scene.

I remember a few interviews with Vivica, and this was before the 2nd part had come out. She accidentally let slip about some scenes and the animation and she was really excited about it all, then they hacked it out. Bet she was gutted

as she wasnt even in part 2 in the end apart from a few bits and pieces.

There was a lot to tie up and characters we all went on a journey with. To not conclude each story would be insulting to them, AND as Shen has said you'd miss the whole point of where Frodo is going.
grim_tales wrote:Brad I think Vol 2 was maybe Tarantino's homage to Sergio Leone (making the film long)

That's no excuse to make to make a shit film

. To me Kill Bill ends at the end of Vol. 1.

Yeah, I guess they wanted to tie up characters arcs fair enough
I'll get the JP KB's at some point but not the big-ass box, I know its cheap but I dont want it just because its cheap, if you see what I mean.
