Yes, please do.Edison Chen said on Thursday he would step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry to “heal himself”
Step away, lad. You've caused enough trouble already.
Take as much time as you need to heal yourself.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Leo DiCaprio has always been pretty good.
Somehow him starring in Titanic (which became an unexpected blockbuster) and thus becoming an 'idol' for many young horny desperate girls, made people think he wasnt a good actor. But he was already very talented, even in his role in Growing Pains (horrible show, but Leo stole all the scenes he was in, although admittedly, that aint so hard when your co-stars are that bad)
After that he did a good job in Gilbert Grape, Romeo + Juliet, and The Basketball Diaries.
Although I didnt care much for Leo in Gangs of NY.
I'm not saying he's a great GREAT actor. But he is talented and not some dude that just got lucky out of nowhere (like Edison)
I havent seen enough of Hayden Christiansen (nothing I guess), so cant say anything about him

Ofcourse, but that was more DESPITE of him, instead of BECAUSE of him.thelostdragon wrote:Some of the films he was in were really good, though.Yi-Long wrote:He should have lost his private collection years and years ago... so we wouldnt have all those horrible movies with him.
It's like Michael Wong in Beast Cops. People say he was GOOD in that. No he wasnt. He was ok-ish in that, but the movie was great and there was a talented cast around him.
He isnt the reason that movie was good. He is the reason that movie isnt outstanding. If the role played by Michael Wong would have been played by a very good actor, than that movie could have been an all-time HK classic.
Same thing with Edison. He's been in some good movies, but he didnt make the movies better than they would have been without him. Those good movies probably would have been even better had they used a better actor than Edison.
Case in point: Infernal Affairs 2, great movie, untill the very end when Edison opens his mouth to provide us with some english dialogue.
I would rather have seen a better actor in that role.
Ofcourse, nowadays it seems to be a huge problem to get ACTORS into a HK movie, cause they (The HK industry) just wants singers or american-born chinese to act like moviestars and be 'idols'.
I guess when you're a young HK-born actor with no singing or dancing skills, you're pretty much screwed if you wanna make a career there, unless you wait till you're 40 and they might hire you as a character-actor, so you can play cop-on-the-beat, or restaurantboss, or mob-boss...
No surprise that HK movieindustry is currently in the state it's in.
Guys like Jackie Chan, mars, Yuen Biao, Gordon Lau, etc etc... would NEVER had been moviestars if they had been born 25 years later than they did... cause nowadays the HK industry isnt interested in ordinary-looking guys who can do some kung fu and comedy. They want pretty boys and girls, for easy-made romantic comedies or dramas...
A real shame.

You're right. I put that down wrong.thelostdragon wrote:Spot on, Yi. Though I can't remember saying that the films were good because of Edison. Only you saying that the films he was in were horrible.
