The islanders say at the end they are looking for "a man who would come here as a Virgin" and "man who would come here as a fool" and its by resisting Britt he fits that criteria. Howie IS a fool as he makes the mistake of assuming what isn't "good" in his eyes, must therefore be "evil".
IMO its not only the twist that maketh the film, it is a classic IMO.

Twist is about 50% of Twist films. Without that Tiwst the film would have just never even been heard of like so many others.

Nonsense. Its' not just about that. Films like Unbreakable would have worked well without their famous twists. I watched Unbreakable the other day and still enjoyed it a lot.
It (Wicker Man) looks dated to me too but to be fair it was made more than 30 years ago

Unbreakable isnt really a twist film for me, its just a superb film with a ending that is also superb other lesser films do really put everything into the endings.

Sixth Sense for instance, good film, but no way in hell does it deserve all that sucess thats for sure. I can think of many great films with twists that are very good film still, but many which just go all out for a silly ending and hope it gets people in the cinema.

I agree BTW - I think Unbreakable had far more rewatch value than Sixth Sense

The islands are fools if they think he's still a virgin at age 50 odd! . Thanks though. I missed the first 20 minutes but I doubt that would've swayed the film greatly for me. £2.97 is oddly tempting.

True but if you take the twist out of films with a twist they wouldn't be the same film so your analogy makes no sense.

That's so far fetched if the film was lying the crux of it's story on this. I didn't even know that, the film's suddenly got weaker IMO.

I think you misunderstood the whole concept Brad, try watching it again from the beginning.

Sleeping with Britt wouldn't have been an evil act; it was a lifeline for him. An act of "love" would have saved him from his horrible fate. The islanders needed a virgin; they used Britt to test Edward. If he had succumbed to NATURAL temptation, they couldn't have sacrificed him for their God; instead he has ultimately (and unknowingly) sacrificed himself for his. A life unlived and unloved is a life wasted.... The film is basically saying how stupid people are who live life and death according to religion, allowing it to control their feelings, thoughts and principles. Oh, and sex is good.

OK fair enough. Which version did you see though? The short version (84 mins) is crap, the DC is the only version you need to see.

I don't know tbh it was the showing ITV4 (could be ITV3) showed a while back. I'm sure it was longer than 84 minutes so it must've been the DC.

DTS being the reason to get the Korean DVD but in honesty there was no real reason put it on 3 discs AFAIK. The International cut is very short and the UK DVD has English subtitled extras too.
