That's the $64,000 question, but employers don't give a shit about the answer. As far as they're concerned, the problem is yours. I think the only option is start off doing something beneath your aims (fucking shelf stacking) and then use it as a stepping stone. It doesn't matter how good you think you are, means nothing without references.

That sucks. There's no reason why a disability should be held against a potential employee unless it would get in the way of a job. It might depend on what kind of photography you want to do and whether mobility is a factor. You use the stick all the time?

im experienced in photography and such but until i have actual practical experience no-one wants to know...ok im whining now, but yeah it just gets on my nerves that the education and employment scales are so fucked up.

I agree with you. The one positive about photography is that you can build up a portfolio that shows off your work. Most jobs you can't actually demonstrate your talent in an interview.

In Scotland the maximum is 18, but that's only if you were born between March-June. Otherwise it would be 17.
16 is the legal minimum, even if it means you hanging around until Xmas.

lol in the uk many leave school at 16/17, i graduated school fully, sincei was born in july i was actually 15 when shcool ended in the june, but pretty much 16... i went to college, becuase my parents are disabled and cant financially support me.. i gained £30 a week to help towards costs of books and such...they also still recvie child benefits for me, so i didnt have to pay rent or such, and besides im their little girl, they wouldnt kick me out

no i didnt destroy my own body, its a genetic condition that causes my joints to be very lax and easy to dislocate and damage, i was born with it, and its got progressivly worse..lol it was cool for a while to be able to do all these "cool" things, but it not cool when i cant walk at all, or use crutches becuase my hips and shoulders are so bad

about 80% of the time yeah, sometimes i use 2, othertimes im having a good day and can walk ok lol. just getting over a shitty shitty week of not being able to walk or do much. its pretty damn annoying when you cant even tie your own shoelaces!!

You mean Charles De Menezes (sp?). I know that was horrible, but my point was the wrongful arrest and shooting was an outrageous travesty. All the evidence against them was wrong.

This week I have been mostly reading A Piano In the Pyrenees by Tony Hawks - I like it Not as laugh out loud funny as Round Ireland With A Fridge or Playing The Moldovans at Tennis, but still very good.

Also finishing off The Da Vinci Code.

I'm sorry this talk of a "condition" (I DO NOT have full blown Asperger's, I wish I'd never mentioned this now) having a bearing on what books I choose to read or what films I may choose to see is beginning to annoy me. Are you saying I'm a sheep or somehow less intelligent for reading popular books?

I have listened to the audio book of "The DaVinci Code". I thought it was really great and full of tension. I really don't wanna watch the movie. When it was announced, I couldn't think of how to turn it into a suspenseful motion picture. Reviews have confirmed what I thought when it was released. Will watch it on DVD though.

Eva, of course one is in danger to buy a book only because everybody has read it. You go on the train or a bus and you see three people reading this book. But that doesn't make it any less exciting. I received the audio book as a gift and as I said, I thought it was very good. It's not up there with my favourite books, like "Musashi" is, but I had a great time listening to a good fictional story. Does that make it a guilty pleasure?

I havent read the DaVinci's Code yet. Not out of principle or anything like that, cause I dont have any principles Just kidding... I just haven't. Not sure why. I know alot of people have enoyed reading the book, so I dont see why others would then go and laugh at those people. To each their own.
Personally I will probably one day read it, and then I'll have a judgement on it.

But Grim, don't take people too serious when it comes to this. You shouldnt give a fuck what others think about you and about what music you like, what clothes you wear, what books you read, etc, if YOU enjoy them.

Obviously, you shouldnt like certain books or artists 'because everyone else does' so liking a certain artist will score you points with them or something... but just go for your own taste and enjoy the nice things in life...

Many of us here would be laughed at by some other people if they hear we watch kung fu flicks, anime, read comic books, etc etc. Others will be laughed at for wearing a pink shirt or whatever excuse some people find to make fun of others.

Basic rule in life: don't give a fuck about those people and what they think and/or say.

Like LD I foind the book (Da Vinci) entertaining I havent heard the audio book though.
I do have his other book "Angels and Demons" which I've heard is supposed to better than Da Vinci.

Maybe it's those kind of reviewers who are regular readers, and now feel 'less special' or whatever cause everyone else is reading that book. Plus perhaps they hope to get other people to read the (in their minds) even better books around...

Just like we all scoff at people saying Chuck Norris was great in Walker; Texas Ranger, or at people who claim Bruce Lee made the bast martial arts movies.

Either way, for some reading is very very special, but for most of us it's just a form of leisure, a form of entertainment. Dan Brown has apparently written a book that somehow connects with the masses, and has gotten them to read. These people all have a good time reading it, so obviously it can't be all bad.

You ofcourse also have the literary DICKS that only swear by 14th century poetry written by a left-handed budhist monk who ahd the words whispered to him by the spirit of a drunken lama or whatever. We call those people pretentious bastards.

Here in Holland we have a couple of writers who seemingly have high respect by some reviewers. Yet when I read their work, They take pages in describing the simplest of simple thing, the story is often uninteresting, but gets high points for being 'personal, emotional', whatever...
It's just a crappy book and a crappy writer, but because they act all pretentious and 'high and mighty', other people are somehow really impressed by them. It's like a guy throwing cow-shit at a canvas, and calling it 'art' (true story), and people seemingly just 'accept' that as it's original and weird.

Anyway, in short: just read and watch and listen whatever you want. It's your life.

Exactly. These thriller novels (written by the likes of James Patterson, etc) are the written equivalent of those god awful and high predictable run-of-the-mill Hollywood thrillers that I despise. TBH DaVinci Code sounds just like those, thus why I'm avoiding it like the plague.
