Damn, if OUATIC comes out in a decent HD version, might be time to finally get a region free BD player AND spend more than $30 AUD for a single movie blu-ray!

From the High Def. Digit Review:
Miramax really screwed up here. The Blu-ray contains the movie's original Mandarin-language soundtrack only in standard Dolby Digital 5.1 format. Meanwhile, the ridiculous English dub has been encoded in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. This wasn't an error. Someone intentionally decided to prioritize the dub. (The same thing has happened to the simultaneously-released 'Zatoichi', 'Iron Monkey', and 'The Legend of Drunken Master'.) Quite frankly, this is a shameful case of someone having their head up their ass.
It's to be extended Drunken Master 2 gets English in DTS-HD MA but I didn't expect Iron Monkey too also.

I guess it depends how good the HD transfer is. It's damn annoying both Hero and Iron Monkey only get DD5.1 though.

Also from the Hero review:
English subtitles are contained entirely within the 2.35:1 movie image, and are safe for viewing on Constant Image Height projection screens. Unfortunately, Miramax's subtitle translation is different than and significantly inferior to that used on international DVD releases of the film. The subtitles are coherent, but greatly simplified and "dumbed down." They lose much of the poetry of the language. For example, when the King of Qin (Chen Dao Ming) describes his plans to unite "all under heaven" (as every other edition of the film translates it), in the Miramax translation he generically refers to it as "our land." The epilogue text also proclaims that, "This was more than two thousand years ago" just in case anyone wasn’t sure.
Given the lame subtitles I'll pass on Hero but may still get Iron Monkey.

There is, the UK and US Blu Rays are shit stepping city. So yes there is a reason to get a HK version, well if it is good!

How are they shit? I guess there could be a reason if the Theatrical version is included for comparison, the 1998 SE is the only one I've seen :)

It's shit as they are stepping, jaggie filled transfers from dodgy 1080i transfers.

Still you may not mind stepping :) esspecailly as you have a 32 inch screen as it may be the right size (depending on how close you are to it as well), I noticed it instantly and it ruined a few earlier Warner transfers sadly :(
I would re-buy the film again if a transfer came out without the evil Jaggies! they do my head in no end :dontknow:

But again hey if you see the UK version cheap pick it up and see for yourself as you may just never notice it on your set up, many never do :)

More to the point they only have the rights to the Cantonese dub. So a definite no purchase for me.

I'll be getting FOF and WOTD though, when they're cheaper or ported elsewhere.

By normal standards perfectly good, it's not perfect but perfectly fine. I have the USA BD. You'll be happy with it. I believe the BD like the SE DVD is the Extended Cut.

I'll get the UK BD of ETD at some point I'm sure, I wonder who would pick up FoF/TBB in the UK as HKL aren't really in business now.

I'd like to see Fox port their Ultimate Collection over to Blu.

Not necessary given that Fox's transfers are already from great HD masters.

Yeah, they looked good on DVD. But some were complaining (for eg) that the HK BD of Fist of Fury didnt look very good - wouldn't Fox use the same transfer for their BD?

I bet Fox would just port them again. I'd prefer FOF to get remastered but would still pick it up at a decent price.

Cine-asia are most likely to pick them up.

Because they released them as budget titles on DVD and just ported over the Fortune Star IVLs DVDs.

Because they've been most active since HKLs demise releasing HK martial arts films, check out their catalogue.

Brad - Cine-Asia's BDs have been hit and miss though. Active, certainly, but they don't have an exemplary record. The UK market for Chinese films has dried up big time.

Grim - Compare Fox's UE DVD with Deltamac's BD. The master Fox already possess (assuming they still have it) is clearly superior to what Fortune Star gave DM.
