What bollocks. I occasionally watch DVDs upscaled to 1680*1050 on my 22" LCD monitor and it looks fine when I'm sitting ~60cm away. I use the Nvidia Purevideo MPEG2 codec, which is probably like a 100x better than the shit upscalers in most TVs and set-top players.

Seriously Romero I doubt many people notice the number of flaws you do. As long as a transfer is overall good and doesn't have a glaring problem then I'm pretty much happy.

Becuase thats 22 inches thats why!!! watch a DVD on a 10 foot projector screen, too close and you wold know what I mean, a little compression on a 22 inch screen is not noticable at all as thats far to small. Even on a 32 inch screen its not a "big" thing, going past say 40 inches makes a bigger difference and going over 60 well even the best transers have problems you would not see on a tiny 22 incher.

But blown up to BIG screen they are like lego blocks, if you cannot notice flaws on dvds good for you.

I'm waiting to see what they do with the Ultimate Collection for BRD, they stuffed up the HD-DVD release by releasing The Animatrix in SD.

Apprently they are Re-Releasing The Animatrix I checked it out with my Blood Diamond HD DVD Online only extras, there was a poll only open to HD DVD users (I think it was only HD DVD) and you can vote which title you want most, that was top of the list by a mile.

So expect another re-release of The Animatrix! but in HD next time! Blu Ray may well get the HD version first in this case. Swindling more cash from HD DVD users, way to go. Saying that they may do it to Blu Ray forst as well.

Oh yes please, I hope you're right and they do put out a HD version of Animatrix, regardless of format. It must have the original Japanese audio though, otherwise I won't touch it.

I will see how the poll went I am sure its on a forum somewhere taling about it. I am not sure its up anymore as I am never again plugging my HD DVD player onto the net, as the HD online extras are basically shit worthless in fact, all that fuss over nothing at all!

Unless you want the new Documentary or OST CD the old 2 disc SE is the way to go, as it can be found for a reasonable price.

As the 3 Disc SE is 3 discs it's still being priced way too much.

p.s - the 1 Discer is also bare-bones but crucially it's the theatrical cut so is to be avoided. If it was the DC it would be worth it maybe if you don't want extras.

I'll keep the old 2 disc SE then.

My Matrix Trilogy HD-DVD box set has shipped, more shiny discs I cannot play . Still I'm confident over the next few months I will be able too, so no real loss.

Pity the Theatrical Cut has forced subs but if it doesn't bother you then it's a great release, easily the best version so far. The English soundtrack is also DTS-HD Master Audio, whereas the UK version is the lesser DTS-HD High Resolution!
