Its not as good as it used to be.
I know you're going to say "But you're in your twenties", its not just that - the quality of the programmes has dropped. I miss the days of Philip Scholfield, Phillipa Forrester and Andi Peters in the Broom Cupboard Not forgetting the puppets like Gordon the Gopher.
In those days, it would be Andi Peters/whoever introducing Neighbours, now its just the BBC continuity announcer. There seemed to be a wider variety of shows on Children's BBC (as opposed to CBBC) as well (which beat CITV hands down back in the day) - drama, comedy. Now its mostly cartoons

I used to love classics like Knightmare and Mike and Angelo (OK those were on ITV). The BBC made some excellent dramas like the 80's Narnia adaptions and Five Children and It in the 90's.
Classic kids TV was The Wombles, TMNT, Play School/Play Away, Bertha, Flumps, Banaman, Henry's Cat

Yes I do remember Play School (just about) as it finished on BBC1 in 1988.

I'm sure kids who the shows are designed for love them + the TV producers would've adapted the shows for today's kids.

p.s - Philip Scholfield is still on TV if you want to get your kicks . Andi Peters is now a head honcho at BBC.

Don't you agree though? Its not the same is it? I know Scholfield is still on TV (presents This Morning). I saw him in the West End production of Dr. Dolittle in 1998 and he was really good

Doesnt Andi Peters produce Top of The Pops now? Thats really gone downhill too, and they decided to axe TOTP2

I stopped watching kids TV long ago. I do remember some of the programmes from the late 80's you mention Grim. I don't doubt it's gone downhill since then. Everything else on TV has.

Sorry I cannot comment as I'm bound to think it's gone downhill I'm 27 next month and cannot therefore look at kids shows how they're meant to be looked at (by kids).

Sorry again but I grew up and started watching serious films, documentaries and adult TV shows.

p.s - Yes Andi Peter know produces TOTP which again I don't watch as it concentrates on the singles charts which = the under 20s charts. If they did a TOTP which concentrated on album sales I'd probably watch it but quite frankly I don't care how well ONE song is doing or not.

I agree with you about the smilies - we need a new happy face smilie and a new LOL smilie. I much preferred the ones on Old bullets.

I'm not saying I still watch kid's TV Doesn't mean I dont look back fondly on what I enjoyed as a kid.

Kids today have a much different mindset than when we were all kids...Thats the biggest difference....

Its all POWER RANGERS and TOP BLADE and STARCRAFT game cds and stuff over here...but Korean kids TV STILL has quality kids programs..that can be enjoyed by adults as well....poeple dressed as unrecognisable creature suits, hot babes in strange childish clothes, talking hand puppets...you name it!!!

As a kid, I never liked 'presenters' and kid-shows and all that crap. I just wanted to watch cool cartoons, and all that other crap I couldnt care less about...

I remember when Holland just started having CABLE TV, so we could receive channels from other countries, I always used to watch SKY Channel and SUPER Channel. Sky Channel had the DJ Kat show ... and it showed Mask and GI Joe etc etc. And Superchannel had Macron 1, which was awesome

But at the moment, we cant receive any of those channels anymore. The dutch channels seem to DUB almost every cartoon at the moment, so that's shite as well...

I loved the DJ Kat show, I remember mostly for post 1988 episodes of Ninja Turtles Brilliant.
Yi do you mean the cartoons are dubbed in Dutch or English? With cartoons a dub is a dub surely?

Yeah, I see what you mean, smartass , but I mean many originally english/japanese cartoons, are being dubbed into DUTCH...
Personally I think most cartoons should just be shown with the original voices, so I'm not a big fan of dubbing. With programs that are for 4-6 year olds I can understand why they would dub it, but beyond that: let the kids read the fucking subs

There is some wierd Australian kid's program on C5 where a group (2 guys, 2 girls) sing/dance to kids songs. I think its' called Hi-5. One of them, Kathleen de Leon (sp?) is not bad looking for a kids presenter.

in the same way ( :drunken: ) childrens tv isnt as good as it used to be because we are comparing it to what made good tv when we wer children and not what makes 'good' tv for children now
