Whats' the best version of this?
I've read the UK DVD is cut by about 3 minutes (!) so thats best avoided. Is there an uncut R2 or R1?

They're the cheapest I can find. Personally I'd get the R4 for PAL but you maybe able to get some other bargains from DVD Pacific so go R1.

TBH i don't understand what the speedup is all about. I can't hear any different between actor voice, as some people have said.

Explanation:
Film is shot at 24 fps.
PAL is displayed at 25 fps.

To display a movie in PAL format, you have two choices:
-Speed up the video by 4%.
-Do a crappy "Tartan-like" NTSC-PAL conversion.

PAL speed-up is noticeable because the voices are high-pitched.
TV shows Friends, Stargate and Buffy suffer from this problem.

Fortunately, big studios tend to use a pitch correction system that hides the speed-up's side effects.

Yes and you missed out all the problems that occur with NTSC which people hate.

I don't mind whether I get the R1 or R4 TBH if all it comes down to is NTSC v PAL.

region 4 will come in an amaray region 1 if it's old stock will come in a snapper

Does R1 have new stock in an amaray?
R4 will have those hideous HUGE rating logos on them, no thanks

i'd sooner have a ratings logo than a shitty snapper any day.the ratings logo on the r4 is no worse than a bbfc 18 logo imo

The BBFC logos are far more discrete than either the old or new R4 logos IMO

Grim NTSC is a lower resolution. I've noticed it but it's mostly noticeable on poorly made NTSC DVDs.

Me neither BUT I have noticed the increased PAL resolution, definitely.

That said if the NTSC DVD is as good and cheaper I'll get that one.

Yes it does oh and:

* Snapper vs. keep case - It's an old title so on R1 maybe snapper. I received 'Demolition Man' (top film, virtually no one likes) the other day from DVD Pacific and was surprised to see it in a snapper. Both are WB titles.

* OFLC Certificates - Again it's old so the new crappy R4 certificate may not be on it.

That said I'd prefer the new logo to a snapper!

p.s - It's cheaper at Atlantic DVD I posted above, who I can recommend (I got 2046: LE from them).

I've compared a film in PAL and NTSC, and it's very noticeable if you're watching them side by side. The PAL just sounds silly in comparison, and takes no time in getting out of synch with the NTSC version. But I do prefer a PAL picture, for the added resolution.

We are going to go thru all this crap again with tye new HD dvds which is best and why, at the moment its all bull and its a joke they dont make them all exactly the same!

The PAL/NTSC issue will never change, it was set in stone along time ago but yes I agree there is still time for one HD format (which I doubt will happen).

i have the region 1 eraser and it's a snapper :x great movie though,has mucho rewatch value imo.

I saw it in the cinema Uncut and all that.

I first saw ERASER at the cinema (was a few weeks under '18') but it was cut; then I saw the NTSC LD (well, a copy) and that was uncut, then the butchered '15' VHS, which I didn't know was butchered until I saw it, then later they showed the UK cinema version on SKY, then finally the R1 DVD, uncut and 16:9. Luvverly. Mine has a snapper case - but I don't really care.

The UK cinema cut was an UNCUT 18, so not sure which version you saw Mark?
it was only cut when it came to Video as I noticed quick as I bought the piece of crap!

No, the '18' cinema print was cut by 27s.

Five cuts were made for strong violence and threat.

The '15' video version by 3m, 22s.
