Casino Royale + fans threaten to boycott new film

I must admit I thought "Daniel Craig.. WHY?" when hearing he would be the new Bond, but I think boycotting the movie is a bit OTT, he should be given a chance. Look how Pierce turned out.
From Digital Spy:
Some vocal fans of the James Bond series have threatened to boycott the newest film in the franchise, Casino Royale.
The fans in question seem to be outraged over the casting of Daniel Craig as the suave spy 007 and have even set up a site urging fans to boycott the film due to the decision. The web site,
www.craignotbond.com, calls on fans "to stop Sony and Eon [Productions] from ruining the future of James Bond by hiring Daniel Craig".
Former Bond star Pierce Brosnan has defended the choice for his replacement, calling Craig a "fine actor" and going on to say that "these are rocky waters, but I think he will have the last laugh."
Christopher Lee, veteran actor and former Bond villain, has also recently defended Craig against critics, saying that people should not pass judgement on the actor until they had seen him in the film.
However, the website claims that the casting of the blond actor who is known for his roles playing "killers, cranks, cads and gigolos" shows that producers are out of touch with what Bond fans want: "This is what happens when you lose touch with public opinion. By casting Craig, Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have proven once and for all that they care little for the opinions of Bond fans."

I have never liked Brosnan as Bond, so I've been pretty much boycotting the Bond series anyway. Let them first fix the scripts and writing etc etc, and maybe then I'll start getting interested again

Hmmm... I think Daniel Craig can bring that dark tone back to what the character James Bond is actually meant to be like (that is according to the novels I read).
A few days ago he lost two teeth when a stuntman accidentally punched him in the mouth.

Yeah, he could bring that back, but that ofcourse depends on the script and villain etc. Hell, I'm sure Brosnan could have been a good Bond if the scripts were better and he didnt play the character like a Ken barbiedoll, who's way too slick to be real. Apart from Connery, my fave Bond is Dalton, who had the perfect mix of suave, and 'danger' and intensity. He was way more human then Brosnan's Bond.
License to Kill blowed though.

Some people are far to fanatical. ALL we know who 007 is and people are getting angry?
Some vocal fans of the James Bond series have threatened to boycott the newest film in the franchise, Casino Royale.
I'm sure Sony are really worried. Name me a 007 film that bombed at the cinema? It doesn't happen.
Me I can't wait. Craig is a top actor.

Batman fans reacted similarly when they heard that Burton had cast Michael Keaton (an actor known for comedic roles at the time eg in the film Mr. Mum) as the Dark Knight but they were proved wrong. We'll just wait and see how Craig goes.
Personally I could care less, I've been all that interested in the Bond films. Besides the Jason Bourne films release their bowels onto the Bond franchise from great heights anyway.

As good a job as Keaton did I think others could've done better.
Personally I could care less, I've been all that interested in the Bond films.
I presume you meant:
Personally I couldn't care less, I haven't been all that interested in the Bond films.
As what you said was the opposite.
Besides the Jason Bourne films release their bowels onto the Bond franchise from great heights anyway.
Are you comparing the recent Bond or ALL the Bond films? As the first Bond films were very different and very much similar to Bourne, which I think is good but overrated.
The second especially really, really pissed me off with all the close cutting. You could literally barely see any of the action. Oh look someone's shooting all I can see is their bloody hand.

Well, as for Brosnan - Bond fans have been rooting for him as Bond for a long while...
I must say, I felt he did the job well - a mix of Moore and Connery kinda. Seeing as one Bond-camp is pro-Moore and the other is pro-Connery... maybe this mix wasn't so good

. Anyways. I think the acting was more than good enough... any issues with the movies stems from scripts and editing.
Oh and music. What nearly ruined Goldeneye for me downplaying of the James Bond theme music
Shush anyways... If I were to boycot this it would be for Sony first convincing Brosnan to do another one and then ditching him in favour Craig. That was not nice... (and I like Brosnan, have done so ever since Remington Steele

)
Well, I may still get another Brosnan Bond. How many remember George Lazenby? He originally replaced Connery - but that flick didn't get "over" - even if it is a decent flick... Lazenby got the blame, and Connery was shanghaied back to "save Bond" in Diamonds are Forever before they found another replacement... that seems to have worked... Roger Moore.

Brad actually "I could care less" and "I couldn't care less" mean the same thing.

If you say "I could care less" in America it means the same as "I couldnt care less".
Yi, er... but Bond is supposed to be a lethal spy with an eye for the ladies. ALL the Bonds to a certain extent (yes even Connery) played the role like a Ken doll in terms of how they looked. He's supposed to be like that. I liked Brosnan, he had the right amount of quips and menace. 8)

Kinda a mix of Connery and Moore.

Brad actually "I could care less" and "I couldn't care less" mean the same thing.
No they don't. One means you COULD care less, the other means you COULDN'T. The only possible way they could mean they same is if you took "COULD" to be sarcastic. As in "yeah, like I could care less..."

In America, if you say "I could care less" it means the same as "I couldn't care less" in Britain.. 8)

Yeah, which shows how Americans don't make sense or have common sense.
Even to me, as someone who has been learning English, it is just logical that if you could NOT care less, it means you are not interested at all. While when you say you actually COULD care less, it means you are interested a little bit.

I know, you're right it doesnt make sense - lets just use the British version eh?

From Dictionary.com:
couldn't care less
Also, could care less. Be completely indifferent. For example, Pick whatever dessert you want; I couldn't care less, or I could care less about the editor's opinion. This expression originated about 1940 in Britain and for a time invariably used "couldn't". About 1960 "could" was occasionally substituted, and today both versions are used with approximately equal frequency, despite their being antonyms.

"I Never Wanted to Be Bond" says Craig
From Digital Spy:
Daniel Craig has admitted he never wanted to play James Bond, revealing his worries about the role.
"I never really wanted to do James Bond," announced the 38-year-old, whose casting has upset some hardcore fans. "Don't get me wrong, I want to make big movies and I want to make as much money as I possibly can, but there's not a tremendous emotional challenge."
The star is also afraid he will be criticised if Casino Royale is unsuccessful. "It's a dodgy place to be walking," he commented. "I don't really want to get the rap for destroying the franchise."

LOL, the Bond franchise had been destroyed years ago. Ex-pat kiwi Lee Tamahori's shitfest Die Another Day shattered the last remaining fragments - it made Batman & Robin (1997) look good.
Here's hoping that Casino Royale will be what Batman Begins was to that franchise (a good quality film that gives a much needed reboot to a completed dried up franchise).

Interesting, I *hope* it does that too. I agree with you DAD was overall poor.
