Another winner from the most intuitive director since Steven Spielberg first introduced Mr. Man to a deranged eighteen-wheeler. The Great Yokai War is the type of film I'd like to see find a greater audience. It's entertaining, fun, visually absorbing, and doesn't insult anyone's intelligence. It doesn't quite reach the level of unadulterated tomfoolery of Happiness of the Katakuris, but settles nicely into a respectable second place among Miike's more light-hearted films.

I've just finished watching this.

Once again I'm left with a "WTF ?!" expression on my face.
This movie is fun, but I'm not sure I get the ending.

@Bisc:
Near the end, Tadashi escapes by riding some sort of Sea-horse/Horse/Hippogriff.
But I don't recall seeing such a beast. Was it created in the explosion ?
Or is it supposed to be completely absurd ? :D

And how do you understand the last shot (Kato with his red eyes) ?
Does it mean that Kato is now a Yokai ?

Alas I can't read that as I didn't review it. :(

I'll see if I can order it on my next batch of DVD purchases. 8)
