Come on Mr. Jackson give us what we want.

It's not up to Jackson... there are rights issues attached to The Hobbit which needs to be worked out. (Some wacky deal where one company has the US rights, while another has international rights - and those companies are not best pals or some STUPID thing)

It seems as though Jackson is off
The Hobbit. There's also a
statement from Jackson himself about the situation.
What will all the Middle-Earthers do now?

Cross your fingers that whoever New Line has signed/will sign to direct will make a good film.

You'd think they'd realise holding off would give them a better film, the same cast and an all round better package but no we can't wait, can we.
Way to go New Line!

Ian McKellen IS Gandalf  I can't imagine anyone else doing it

After what he's said (that he's disappointed) I doubt he will be now

I'd hope all the original cast would say no to this deal... then even NewLine would get the idea!

Jackson will still make "The Hobbit"?
Digital Spy wrote: Peter Jackson will direct The Hobbit movie, according to a producer whose company will soon own rights to the book.
The Lord of the Rings director said last week that bosses at New Line Cinema had told him he was "no longer needed" for the prequel and another possible project in the set.
But producer Saul Saentz, maker of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, told The Sun that New Line's contract would soon fall to him, as he owns the screen rights to Tolkien Enterprises.
“[The Hobbit] will definitely be shot by Peter Jackson," he declared. “Next year, The Hobbit rights will fall back to my company.
“I suppose that Peter will wait because he knows that he will make the best deal with us. And he is fed up with the studios.
“To get his profit share on the Rings trilogy, he had to sue New Line," he continued. "With us, he knows that he will be paid fairly and artistically supported without reservation.”

That sounds good but "The Sun". We're not out of the woods yet.

Cheers Kurgan.
It doesn't say if he'd not do it though.

Couldn't he play a (very) young Bilbo?
In a wierd twist, Ian Holm (Bilbo in LOTR movies) played Frodo in a BBC Radio 4 adaption of LOTR from 1981.

Of course but I hope he wouldn't want to, unless Jackson is back of course.
