Ultraviolet (follow up to Equilibrium)

Anyone going to see this? Looks entertaining. It stars Mila Jovovich (Fifth Element, Resident Evil). I'm sure Romero will love it ;)
I liked Equilibrium, Kurt Wimmers previous film, it was very stylish and the gun kata was great, though the script was full of holes, definitely not the intelligent film it thinks it is.
Interestingly the Unrated R1 of Ultraviolet is released next week, just after it hits UK cinemas!

It takes place in HK, has HK fight choreographers and the HK dp Arthur Wong. And yet the film is supposed to suck. I hope not, though.

The extended cut is theoretically the way to go, since the film was taken away from director Wimmer's control and he was most upset. Who knows if the extended cut was edited by Wimmer or not though?

It seems the extended cut was not by Wimmer sadly :( his film was well over 2 hours long, Sony kicked him off the film, took over the film and edited to what they wanted and apprently ruined it :( which sucks. A film 87 minutes long really is silly when the preview audiences raved over the longer, violent Wimmer cut.

Still I will be seeing the very short theatrical cut on saturday, as hell it looks brilliant from the trailer. Its just a shame Wimmer has been shafted 2 times now on both his films. If I like it I will be getting the extended Region 3 2 dvd set instantly, and hey I am sure I will like it (hope so anyway). Its one of the few films that has had me excited for a long time, more so than most the big films this year.

I saw a sneak peek at one action sequence about 6 months back and that was stunning to behold! hope that bit is still in the film and the rest is as good as igf they are all that good it will be very special.

Everyone knows how much i enjoy mindless action films as long as they are entertaining.

..well, Ultraviolet is total dogshit of a movie even in that department.
One of the worst action films ever, deffinetly the worst film of the year so far.

The story is so lame and stupid that even an extended version could not possibly help, in fact probably would make it worse.

Milla's acting is atrotious as usual, but the horrendous writing makes it seem ever worse.

The action scenes try to be so more elaborate then the budget allows, and look like 100% CGI for the most part. The hand to hand fights are somewhat ok at times, but ultra quick cutting and shaky cam ruins most of that. Not to mention the complete absense of any blood whatsoever.(even if its a guy in a white suit being cut down with a sword).

This is truly a terrible movie, and IMO does not even work as mindless entertainment. You can tell Wimmer is trying to make equilibrium again, but clearly it is not working.

See it if you want, but don't say i didn't warn you.

The Extended Version is hardly extended anyway, just a few minutes longer :?

I was about to say that Recon hated this movie... but he just told you himself.

TBH, the trailer did nothing to arouse me. :?

Is this really Equilibrium 2 (under a different name)?

Not as far as I can tell. Two completely unrelated films; one a tad overrated, one rightly rated.

The trailer really looks awesome. But even the local movie magazine here which usually rate the biggest crap highly gave this one a miss.

What is that song from the last bit of the trailer? The one from the first bit is from "The Matrix", we all know that. :)
