Is it just me, or does the Region 1 "Special Edition" look really blurry? I think I'll stick with my Region 2 standard edition...

I think it's the particular scenes Salty has picked. It doesn't in the third pick but tbh I never believed it was wildly better anyway, just tweaked.

That said the UK R2 looks grainier.

The UK R2 is already good and about £3 from CD WOW. The extras on the R1 are rubbish so forget them.

Many scenes people pick on this forum are action shots I notice and they are blurry as they are in motion and getting an exact frame to match is very hard I found, in fact some are not the same frames I think in some cases. Thats why people should be forced to say exact points where caps are taken from.

But the UK dvd looks clear thats for sure.

HOW DOD YOU GET MI1 from cdwow for £3?

I know some you don't know nah nah nah nah :D . I never thought I'd see the day I knew a CD WOW price you didn't :D

Seriously it was definitely £4.99 (so £2.99) at one point on CD WOW. It's not there now though. I didn't say I bought it though as I was waiting for the R1 to drop in price.

EDIT: Correction it's now £3.99 -

Check how they've spelt Mission Impossible 3 on CD WOW :D (3 S's)

That would be hard with NTSC/PAL issues but agreed people shouldn't pick action scenes. A static face look is a must as we want to see what people look like and a countryside view is also a good idea but fast moving scenes only make the DVD look much worse than it actually is.

The R2 is grainier, but a bit sharper.

The R1 looks smoother with better blacks, but loses details in the lighter areas.

The R2 is I think edge-enhanced?

How on earth did you manage to edit the first post 31 times Salty? Did you go into spasm? :D . You need to edit it 32 times to get it right

i've been trying to put mark's caps in but for some reason it won't let me do it :? i'm doing the same as did as for dreadnaught  plus i was heavily drunk last night when i was messing around with them

It's simple (to me anyway  )

1. Open two windows/tabs
2. Right click on each one one at a time
3. Choose Copy Link/Shortcut
3. Edit your first post in the second window
4. Create spaces between each of your captures
5. Right click and choose paste
6. Add [IMG] to the start of the line
7. Add [/IMG] to the end of the line
8. Submit

Job done!

p.s - Put Mark's after yours as the title says " R1 vs R2", that way you don't need to mess around adding R1/R2 before each capture. It's obvious.

I deliberately didn't as it's a good thing for everyone to know how to do.

As for the DVD both have their pros and cons. Overall I'd say the UK R2 is better.

The R1 is softer, but the R2 has a hazy blue tint.

Neither look that good to be honest. I wouldn't swap one for the other.

The R2 suffers from extreme edge-enhancement.
I suspect it would look atrocious on a big screen.

The R1SE is softer but also cleaner.

region 1 looks better to me.too much grain in the region 2.

All valid points. I would just stick with whichever one you have.

And if you have neither... can't help. :D
