Don't get me wrong. I love Bruce and I love all of his movies. But GoD2 just happens to be one of the best martial arts movies of the 80's, and slightly better than any of Bruce's great movies

GoD 2 is brilliant! Yuen Biao does some great doubling and I loved the music! Also loved the "one armed" dude, very creepy. Roy and Bey's commentary on the HKL is hilarious.

don't forget the fox is the longer international version,the hkl presents the extra footage as deleted scenes.english audio only on the fox.

the HKL is cropped a bit on top and bottom from the looks of it, and missing image on some shots, I did my own tests a few months ago.

A good example is when they show the "INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT" sign, the HKL is missing the "I" completely!

I enjoyed GOD 2 a lot, the fights are great! But to claim its Bruce's best film, better than Fist of Fury for example is just :drunken:

GoD2 is an awesome film. To say it is better than a Bruce Lee-film is a vague conclusion, as I don't think Lee's films and 1980's HK martial arts madness films are comparable. Bruce's films have their own unique style, especially in the fight department.

I love "GoD2". So many great fights that have been choreographed and performed so well. Bruce Lee-films are a different matter. I watch them from a different POV.

I already have the HKL GOD 2 so I'm happy with it 8)

We all love GOD2. FOF sucks (for me anyway), cat-cries and that silly Bob Baker fight especially.

What's bad
Scenes of the Jing Wu students talking out the plot affect the pacing
That 70's couple in the park - nice one, Lo Wei

The score is great.
Nora is acceptable but nothing outstanding, she just did her job and that was it.
Plot is acceptable, just typical revenge with some honourable gestures.
Lead villians are acceptable but hardly outstanding. Can you explain how they were dignified and believable in the film?
Some good fight scenes but a lot of it can be bull.
Nice cinematography at some bits (hardly Chris Doyle however - though I'd rather watch FOF than Wong Kar Wai's hard-to-follow junk. Get's my goat that something practically unwatchable thanks to cheap deliberate lousy camera work makes so much money).

What's bad:

Bruce's Jerry Lewis impressions for a serious film are a little stupid. 10 minutes before, he's ripping people's heads off for revenge and now he's cracking a smile (during the telephone bit)...
Karate students are wearing judo uniforms.

Bob Baker vs BL fight.
The 'Futuristic Plans' about taking kids to school. Makes it seem like we are in some kind of modern-day drama (queesy, cheesy and crinching).

I wouldn't blame Lo Wei for the 70s couple and 60s car, he was probably listening to the horses and someone else had to direct it for him .

It's an OK movie (for it's time, I'll not bash it too much) and it does have it's moments with it's cinematography and stuff, but strictly that's it (quality-wise). It's definately classic, but for the wrong reasons - mainly hype brought it to it's classic status.

What bewilders me is how the fast'n'furious combat wasn't in earlier films and how it just magically appeared in 1978. I hate swordplay (mainly the slower ones pre-1978 mainly - particularily done by Shaws), just wannabe-MAs throwing chunks of metal around.

Here are some reasons that I thought of

1) Early Shaws cast actors rather than fighters. David Chiang may be cooler than ice but he ain't Bruce Lee. GH cast people like Angela Mao and Jimmy Wang Yu who were more suited to fast brutal stuff
2) As a choreographer, Lau Kar-leung is repetetive and too un-varied. He's got a formidable rep but, frankly, I prefer Tang Chia
3) Shaws sound effects got worse as the decade went on. They are too quiet and dull compared to the independant movies
4) 1978 - they discovered the overcrank button - which is a million times better than what Joseph Kuo used to do - clip the frames out
5) The latter 70's is dominated by lightning fast exponents of Peking Opera - though if you want a nice fast early 70's flick, try something with Chen Sing and Yasuaki Kurata

I enjoy Shaws a lot but I'd enjoy them a lot more if a) Celestial did decent subs b) the original audio was included on all discs and c) the old dub included as an option but because I'm not a fan of 70's Mandarin dubs. To be frank, a lot of them are slow and dull. Heck, I still watch FOF in Cantonese, the Mandarin version is poor!
