Is the Throne of Blood DVD worth buying or is the Criterion better?

I did a comparison of Avalon here. It uses the same master as all the European R2 releases and has proper English subs (no shit dubtitles like R1).

Cheers Eva. With the R1 and UK R2 SEs OOP I'd say it's a safe bet the R4 Quiet Family is the way to go. I think the HK DVD is piss poor.

From an extras perspective I'd go with the R4, it's much cheaper too.

Yeah. If you buy the R4 Throne of Blood and it turns out to be a conversion, then just consider it a cheap gap filler until Criterion puts out an HD version eventually.

I don't think Grim notices NTSC-PAL. I don't always (sometimes it's blatant), it's definitely more obvious on an LCD TV though.

Brad, I'm so happy that you didn't ask "what's your source for Criterion planning to put out films on HD". It is so great when Brad doesn't behave like typical Brad. (Just educated speculation on my part, it's just inevitable that they will pick a format.)

The R2 BFI looks shite next to the Criterion, I'm sure the R4 will look better than the old BFI.

Not weird at all. That's the only pay option that customers outside of Australasia are given AFAIK. A year ago they didn't even offer Paypal, so thus some of you chaps had to order through me.

I need to enter a new account though, the one I use(d) for Paypal is empty.

If your PayPal account is empty it will automatically default to your debit card/credit card/bank account or whatever.

I know that But the "debit card' I last used for paypal has no money on it, so I'd have to enter another one
