Must buy DVDs/HD Discs (2009)

Make a personal list of dvds that you need to buy sometime soon. You can set yourself a deadline if you want to. The idea is that in a few months (or when you feel like it) you check back and post the results (+ a new list); how many of the ”must buy” dvds did you actually manage to buy. But please don’t update the list every time you discover a new must buy dvd; the idea is to see how many of the dvds you considered must buy some months ago really remained so important to you that you ended up buying them.

Crikey. How many DVDs do you own? All that in 3 months!

I didn't say I'm gonna succeed

About 500 minus one or two (depending on how many I'll get sold tonight)

I thought you'd have loads more. When did you start?
I had about 620 6 months ago. I now have about 550 and plan to get it to around 450-460 soon. I have a box full of DVDs I need to sell on eBay.

Started the same day when Playstation 2 was released in Finland (Bullit was the first dvd).

About the same as me then, about 7 years ago.
As to DVDs I only tend to think a month in advance and when I was buying DVDs regularly bought roughly 3-4 a month. I'll start up again when I get a HD Player.

hah, I remeber how I bough maybe one dvd every three weeks when I started. Now it's more like one dvd every three days (could be much more even... depends on if I'm on the R2J mood or the R3 HK mood)
I've got maybe 250 dvd on my shopping list (I have an actual list, although it's a mess... but it's very useful not only to remind you of what you've got to buy, but also whenever there's an empty slot in your order you can see if there's something on your list that would fit in (if it's wiser to order more at once, shipping wise).
But I won't keep anything that I don't like in my collection (with a few rare exceptions). If I can't sell, I'll give or throw away. I feel that it lowers the value of my collection if I have some crap in there. Every title that is there is there for a reason.

Amen to that, brother! Just hope that the R2J has English subs and isn't overly over-priced.

I've amended the thread title.
To move this thread along here are my 15 titles I'll be picking up at some point:

If any turn out to be cheaper on HD-DVD I'll get that instead.
HD-DVD:
La Haine - UK
King Kong - UK or USA
A Mighty Heart - UK or USA
Mulholland Drive - UK
Ray - USA
Terminator 2 - Germany

Grim: I'd imagine the R1 Drunken Master is cheaper. It's been out yonks and is bound to be virtually identical.
Does the Spider-man: Extended Cut really add anything?

isn't Million Dollar Baby an E.I.V. release? region locked B if it is i would have thought. The Shining in the uk will be the shorter cut,do you prefer that version?

Yes. Dubs and subs aside they look the same. I seriously doubt Sony have managed to fix the English audio on the Cantonese soundtrack for the UK DVD.
saltysam wrote:isn't Million Dollar Baby an E.I.V. release? region locked B if it is i would have thought.
Oops typo. I was thinking I'll get the USA BD or HD-DVD on that one. I wouldn't get the EIV release if it wasn't region locked, the cover art is awful.
saltysam wrote:The Shining in the uk will be the shorter cut,do you prefer that version?
Good point I forgot that. Again I'll be getting the USA BD or HD-DVD, whichever is cheaper. If price is the same I'll get the BD.

No, the Finnish customs got them and they were sent back.
