Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
Just quickly checked A Tale of Two Sisters and I'm not very impressed with the picture quality. It doesn't look like real high def, it's soft, there's a lack of detail and definition, and a fairly low bitrate.
Mr. Vengeance fairs better and has a decent bitrate, but I can see edge enhancement unfortunately.
Lady Vengeance seems to be the best, it's the most grainy, but seems to be film grain, and I can't see edge enhancement as I skip through it.

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
Yeah I'm willing to bet Tale of Two Sisters is the first of their BD titles with inadequate masters (which I warned people to start expecting earlier in this thread). I guess it's possible they only had a NTSC master as it's 1080i is it not? I'll have to rent it and see how good/bad it is.

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
Is it? I couldn't tell you as my PS3/Toshiba Regza setup can't tell me the whole 1080i thing unfortunately. Shiiiiiiiit.

Right, just been reading up on the matter and yeah A Tale of Two Sisters is 1080i and a guy from Palisades Tartan is contacting the authoring house to find out what the hell's happened.

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
That's weird. Given Tartan have only released the Colour version, outside of the box set.gasteropod wrote:Apparently the UK BD of Lady Vengeance only contains the Fade to Black version, cool, since that's the director's preferred version I'm quite happy about that, although a choice of both would obviously have been nice.
Any further word? Maybe they'll re-issue. If so, I'll wait. It's a pity as Tale of Two Sisters DVD is excellent and I even think the UK one is Native PAL.gasteropod wrote:Right, just been reading up on the matter and yeah A Tale of Two Sisters is 1080i and a guy from Palisades Tartan is contacting the authoring house to find out what the hell's happened.
Now come on Tartan and bloody release Battle Royale. I'd pre-order that in an instant.

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
They reportedly only had suitable materials for an HD release of the Fade to B&W version, so presumably their theatrical print is standard def.
No further updates as of yet about A Tale of Two Sisters that I can see.

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
Can anyone find 36? Given it's stupid name it's not being found on most sites. I can only find it at HMV:

I read, I don't remember where, the November releases are HMV exclusive.
36 has been released in France with english subs, extras are only in french, and will be out in the US in February.

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
Of course. You're right. The Proposition and Black Book can be easily got hold of, as the previous batch weren't HMV exclusives. I can wait, the HMV price is too much.
Thanks for the info on the French BD. They're too pricey for my liking. I imagine the USA BD will have a similar spec. to the UK one. Is it Tartan in America too?

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
Yes it is, Palisades also owns the rights for the USA. less than 20$ according to Dvdpacific.bradavon wrote:The Proposition and Black Book can be easily got hold of, as the previous batch weren't HMV exclusives.
I searched for Black Book, Amazon:58£, Play:78£ , looks like the previous release became rare and HMV is only 14.99£, the region free US release is around 25$.

Re: Further Tartan Blu-ray titles!
You're welcome. I also own the US version because my first Blu-Ray player was a japanese imported PS3, I wasn't sure about region coding so I prefered to buy in the US and because it's cheaper than in Europe.bradavon wrote:Thanks Tutut.
