Max Payne - Mark Wahlberg

Adaptation of the tongue-in-cheek detective Noir game series, Max Payne.
First on-set pic of Marky Mark.
Things are not looking good thus far, the director's previous work includes the awful war film "Behind Enemy Lines" and the screenwriter worked on the dreadful looking horror sequel "Saw 4". The target rating looks to PG-13 for a moment as well, not a good thing for an adaptation of a very violent game series.

Cant say I'm interested. Liked the first game, never played the 2nd game, but Marky Mark as the lead character just seems really wrong and outta place, plus I just dont think that guy is good enough to carry a movie by himself, especially not one where the focus will be on him being a Punisher-style revenge guy.
He's a decent actor, dont get me wrong, but more for supporting roles or for roles where he isnt a leader or a bad-ass good guy.
The chick from That 70's Show is also in it btw.

Oh joy another shit computer game adaptation. Computer games don't have near enough plot to make a decent movie. I wish they'd stop trying.
Juts because it's an awesome game it doesn't mean it will be an awesome movie.
Mark Wahlberg is the American version of Clive Owen, any blander he'd be cardboard.

Yes, let's totally write off a film when its several months from completion.
It's still not a totally lost cause, the Max Payne series is one that is heavily influenced by the Noir film genre, the game has a cookie cutter plotline that's already been in a dozens of films to date.
You guys also seem to be forgetting the promising turn that Wahlberg made in The Departed.

I disagree with your analogy. Owen has never displayed one iota of talent, unlike Wahlberg.

Okay he's better than Owen, but not much better. Owen surprised me in Elizabeth: The Golden Age. He was okay in that.

One film does not make a man. I bet he had lots of direction to work with.

Boogie Nights.

Boogie Nights would have been better if it would have had a better lead actor.
And in the Departed he does a fine job, but he isnt a leading character either.
He's just not good enough to carry a movie.
Planet of the Apes I like, but again it could have been better if it had starred someone better in the lead, as his performance is just so-so.

He's all right in I Heart Huckabees.

PG-13 Max Payne... that's pretty much all that needs to be said
Seriously, what was the last PG-13 movie based on an M rated game series? Mortal Kombat Annihilation back in '97? Dead or Alive doesn't count since only the volleyball games were (inexplicably) rated M. But we've had Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Hitman... and also, unfortunately, the seemingly neverending filmography of Uwe Scheisse Boll.
In short, by now, a PG-13 movie of an M-rated game is rather inexcusable, good or not.

I'll agree with Eva about Boogie Nights but I think that was a fluke because like you say he's not really good enough to carry off a leading man role.

It's okay. They got the Ape look and walk perfect but the rest of the film is poor.
The original is considerably better.

Havent seen the original, but I've seen the remake twice now (once in the cinema in Hong Kong, once on DVD) and thought it was entertaining both times.
Nice movie, but also could have been better.

I thought The Assassin was decent until I saw it's original (Nikita).
The original is much darker with real depth, lost in the Action remake. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (Part 4) is also really good too, that once is really dark.

Wel it looks not bad at all to me. Pretty stylish compared to what I expected, no poor CGI crap and plenty of nice slow mo and style.
Mind you its a trailer

and Fox is releasing the film! damn scumbag film cutters make everything PG!
Mind you the games were amazing things, Max Payne 2 esspecilly nice on the PC and still beats the shit out of many new games now. It does feel like the games, looks like them and uses plenty from them. I dont see much wrong so far.
I look forward to the end film, just hope its no kids film in the end, or a shitty seen it before 1000 times film like Hitman.

Just watched the trailer:-
Cheesy film noir voice-over, CHECK.
Over-the-top slo-mo action, CHECK.
So far it looks like a faithful adaptation.
