Microsoft has decided that Windows 7 won't include built-in programs for e-mail, photo editing, and movie making, as was done with Windows Vista, CNET News.com has learned.
About bloody time. I cannot start all the bloat Windows has, especially Vista. I use:
* Windows Media Player
* Internet Explorer
* Windows Live Photo Gallery
But have never used:
* Windows Contacts
* Windows Movie Maker
* Windows Mail
* Netmeeting or whatever it's now called
* Windows Photo Gallery - You cannot uninstall this and it has to sit alongside Windows Live Photo Gallery, why?
Cheap as in price? Windows XP Home costs £55-60 and given how most people are avoiding Vista I'd say it's extremely good value for money. The same OS for 8 years (by the time Windows 7 comes) is exceptional value for money.
Even Vista HP for £70 for 3 years is fine by me. Besides this is all rather irelevant if you buy it with a new PC. You don't pay the full retail price and it get swallowed inside the hardware price.
200 bucks! WTF! Only an idiot would pay the full retail price. I've never known anyone to pay the full retail price of Windows or Office. You either get it with your PC or pay the OEM price, which is the same but without a pointless box and manual.
Microsoft oddly decided to removed Windows Messenger from Vista (it's part of 2000 and XP). It just comes with a download link for Windows Live Messenger. It sounds like they're doing more of this.
Back in the days of Windows 9x you could choose want to install, with 2000 they removed all this. I never use half the little applications that come with Windows. They take no space up (like Paint) so it's not a big deal but really they don't need to be there.
