My old mouse doesn't work anymore.

Am currently using a Mikomi Mini Optical (AM-9170) as a temp but it's intended for a laptop so I'm looking for a permanent replacement.

I'd like it to be wireless, average size, have an optical reader, two buttons and scroller. Nothing too fancy or expensive.

Any suggestions?

Also if you use a USB connector does the mouse need to be within sight of the USB or is it purely down to the range radius?

TBH just pop into the likes of PC World and get whatever takes your fancy. They're all much a muchness, unless you have a specific one in mind. I like Microsoft ones but a mouse is a mouse.

You can get dedicated gaming etc... ones but as it sounds like you want a no frills one just pop in and see what they've got. What you're asking for it's standard nowadays.

Why does it need to be wireless though? They tend to be heavier due to the batteries. Personally I don't see the point (for most uses), wireless keyboards for people who have their keyboard next to the computer are even stranger.

Thats all you need. I wouldn't touch a Microsoft mouse. They just feel... awful to me!

Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0, commonly regarded as one of the best mice ever had and I wholeheartedly agree.

Avoid laser-driven mice like the plague, horrible technology that only works on a very limited amount of surfaces and skip with fast movements.

Also Apple mice are utterly dreadful. The Apple Mighty Mouse is one of the worst I've ever used:- uncomfortable and totally non-ergonomic; awkwardly positioned 2nd mouse button which seemingly only registers a press if you hit the right-most edge; a mouse wheel that gets jammed by dirt easily.

Eh? My old Logitech laser mouse would work smoothly on any surface I tried it on, including a bobbly towel and the back of my hand! Can't say I ever experienced any "skipping" either.

Interesting point. It was just the idea of getting rid of cables. I'll have a think.

The expense was driving me away from Laser anyways... Optical seems fine to me.

I have Windows. I should've mentioned that. Any other companies to avoid like the plague? lol

Optical is perfectly fine IMO. I've never had a problem with it, so why pay more for laser?

Honestly Mark for use I'd say there isn't much in it. You cannot go wrong with Microsoft or Logitech. Which is better tends to be down to personal preference. I've used both and both do the just perfectly fine.

It's a mouse we're talking about not a work of art.

As to cables, I had the same idea but in the end didn't bother to change my mouse keyboard as it's only two cables and they work fine. That said presuming the weight doesn't bother you then why not, go wireless.

Optical are the only mice worth bothering with.

I have a Laser Logitech. Bought it in HK, so price was OK. 25 euro orso.
