I know there are a couple of region-free BR players available, but most are expensive and by pretty unknown brands.

Are there any GOOD brands which released a BR player here in europe, which can be multi-region through a code, combination or whatever!?

Expensive? Didn't you see the thread about the Limit player being sold in HMV for £50? Although to be fair that was only instore, but on the website it was still only £80.

They fit into two categories:

1. Cheap, unknown names (but good reports on this forum) and remote hackable (out of the box) - Limit, Tevion etc...
2. Expensive, branded and remote hackable (after they've been chipped) - Sony, Panasonic etc... from MRMDVD.com (this is a UK store!)

Grim and Iron Monkey have a Panasonic from MRMDVD and Mark and Salty a Limit/Tevion (I forget which, I think all clones of each other). Personally I'd get a Panasonic (probably the best BD Player manufacturer on the market) but obviously cost is a factor.

They are all Multi-region selectable and not Region Free. DVD is Region Free. By that I mean DVDs auto change to the right region but BDs you need to press A, B or C before putting the region locked disc in (usually when it's in standby and always using the normal remote). Region Free BD isn't possible.

Don't know if it's still available, but I'm well pleased with my Tevion. Haven't had any problems yet, has played every single disc region regardless. I have a boxed Limit as backup for when the Tevion dies or I finally leave home.

My Tevion-(now in the bedroom) has been fine but my brother's has been playing up,discs freezing a fair bit.

It came with a three-year guarantee. He should return it if it's faulty.

i know but it's unlikely they'll have a replacement and he needs multi-region.might get him to get a refund and he can buy my spare Limit off me.

3 year warranty. That's impressive! Definitely return it. It's stupid to not return things that are in warranty, that have a fault.

You could always ask about a replacement before sending it back.
