Faulty Inception DVD Replacement programme

I came across this over at the Rewind listing:
"As of Feb 2011, Warner Brothers have announced a replacement programme for the DVD which suffers picture issues. This only affects those discs from batch SE-SP-08 (which is printed along the bottom edge of the DVD itself). If you have this version, contact wbcustomerservices@technicolor.com for details of how to get a replacement."
Then found this detailing Warner not wanting the original disc back:

I've just checked my Blu-ray Triple play, it has the number above and OMG it's awful. It literally looks like a pirate, it's jaggy to fuck. You guys know I'm no videophile and even I can see how badly this broken disc has been mastered.
Annoyingly I'm away for the w/e (Bullets will be a Brad free zone until Sunday, lucky you) and am taking a few DVDs. Due to it being a triple play, Inception is the only recent film I've got on DVD. Your Nan wouldn't notice, so hopefully my mates won't (it is watchable) but collector's certainly will. It's likely the last time I'll use the disc.
I'll report back if Warner send me out a new disc.

The replacement programme is mentioned here, bottom right:

Look here if you want to see how bad it is:

Inserts Blu-ray into DVD Player, watches as DVD Player struggles to play Blu-ray, watches as DVD Player makes funny noises, watch as DVD Player spits out Blu-ray in disgust. Damn I wish I had a DVD copy of Inception to play in a "DVD Player" this w/e!. Oh wait, I do.
Whether I wanted it or not, I paid for this DVD when I bought the Blu-ray. As did thousands who bought the DVD itself.

Incidentally the Digital Copy is a download link not some pointless extra disc. Why aren't they all doing this for digital copy? Disc 2 is HD extras.

not bad but not great, lengthy but holds the attention though it gets a little confusing.Tom Hardy is excellent in this.cracking music score. by the way if anyone has the triple play or the briefcase version, the dvd in it is defective,WB are replacing them.Doesn't matter i suppose if you are never going to view the dvd or lend it out.
they don't ask for the original back.

I missed that thanks. I think it also affects the DVD version too.

So just to clarify, it doesn't affect the Blu-ray, right? I got the triple play thing for Christmas but haven't watched it yet. I'm not arsed about the bonus DVD with it.

Correct. I'm watching the BD now, it looks ace. I'm not particularly either (except for this w/e) but WB don't want the DVD back, so all it takes is a quick e-mail to the e-mail address above with your name/postal address.
Some are still waiting, some have got theirs in a couple of days. You can check your DVD is faulty be seeing if it has SE-SP-08 written on the bottom.
p.s - Agreed with Salty.

Just checked and yeah it is that one. OK I might as well e-mail them then since I don't have to bother sending it back and that.

Those Inception caps with the jaggies remind me of a lot of BBC DVDs (even when they didn't look like that when broadcast).

I've only answered that question twice in this thread already

.

Really? Which ones? If they're worse than Digital TV jagginess, that's a mess.

Good man. I may sell my original on eBay. I should get a few quid for it, even without the case.

Snuff Box definitely, can't remember which others but it's definitely on a few that I own. I e-mailed them about it ages ago but they didn't bother replying as usual.

It baffles me how companies release discs to the whole fucking country without
watching them first

I know! Surely they have a testing/quality control team.
grim_tales wrote:My God that DVD (Inception) looks atrocious.

It's even worse in reality. It looks like a bootleg. In fact I've seen better quality bootlegs. Some scenes are better than others.

My replacement disc came today and is thankfully fine. Good DVD quality.
It has SE-SP-08-V3 written on it. I wonder if V2 is the general fixed batches and V3 reserved to send out to customers. It's occurred to me, anyone who wants a free Inception DVD can ask for one. It may not interest us but it would many. They required no proof I've actually got it.
I'm gonna see if I can get a few quid for my dodgy copy on eBay.

They asked me for the disc seriel no. and barcode of the set...

I wasn't asked. I had already given them the "SE-SP-08" batch number (not sure what WB call it) though. That isn't a serial number because serial numbers are unique. I sent a single e-mail and got a single reply saying it would be shipped shortly. It was.
The barcode is a good way to check because you'll have to go to the effort to source it out, if you've not bought it. It's not full proof though.
Thanks btw.
