Just for you Grim :D -

You've asked so many times about DVD Profiler over the years (search in "Anything Goes") I thought you could do with your own thread about it :D.

I came across six DVD Profiler Threads started by Grim so I figured it was about time we had an Official one.

Besides why start yet another thread? A bumped thread is just as good as a new one. I specifically picked the oldest one, it makes more sense IMO. Hopefully Grim will reply to this one when he next has a question, probably not :D

Yes: Get adding :D.

You have version 3 right? Free or Paid? The Paid version has no Adverts, High Res. Cover Art and other limitations removed.

It's also free upgrades for life. It's dirt cheap too. The quickest way is to add using the barcode. It took me ages when I first started using it (not as long as you ;)) but now I just update it whenever the collection changes, so it takes seconds.

Yes, v3.5. I've not bothered though. I'll wait for it to be officially released. Only Paid users can get it.

You can add by UPC or Manually search if it's definitely not found you can add them manually and also upload photos.

All new submissions need to be verified by a moderator but unless they're stupid they usually pass them. I use Amazon to get my photos. I rarely upload stuff though as most things are there. I tend to just makes corrections.

Who Am I R2J is there. Are you only adding by UPC? If you type in "Who am I" in the search box, you will see it listed. To be precise it's the DTS version. I'm guessing you don't mean that one?

Mad Max 2 UK HD-DVD or Mainland European BDs are listed. Personally I'd just pick one of the European BDs. Many Predator BDs are listed too, again I'd just pick one.

That's what I do if the title I have isn't listed. I added the USA Bourne Identity HD-DVD as the Aussie one isn't listed or wasn't when I last checked. The differences are not much, so I don't care.

Ah you have the Warner one. Personally I'd just add the Pioneer one instead but agreed the Warner one would be better.

Each listing does rely on users uploading content. I don't think DVD Profiler staff add much, if anything.

Well managed to upload my stuff, 51 hd-dvds, 118 blu-ray (counting box sets as one title) & 732 dvds. i didn't include the family's stuff, ie my lad's simpsons sets, daughters stuff etc.prob another 300 titles there :) my task now is to get that dvd total below 500 :)

I count a box set as one title unless it's separate films then I tend to count them separately. I used to count them as one item but really they're separate.

The odd one I've listed as one item (such as Matrix Trilogy) as I couldn't find separate listings and the combined one will do.

Agreed, it's "your" collection and is best left that way. Will your DVD total also include HD Discs or are they allowed to roam free? :D.

My hd-dvds have gone down from around 85 to 51,that will continue to drop.blu-rays will increase and dvds will decrease :) for my total to be less than a 1000 i must have got rid of more than i thought in recent months

Cool. Is your plan to replace all HD-DVDs with BD over time? I thought you planned to not bother upgrading some. I guess playing everything on the one Player is the plan.

If the cost is minimal, say no more than a fiver i'll get the BD. Depends on the title really and what i'd get for the hd-dvd. for example i got the Warriors BD brand new on ebay for £11 last week,my hd-dvd is up to over £8 on ebay with a day left. Total Recall i sold for £11 got the BD for under £12.But obviously the hd-dvd titles that are £2.99 everywhere i'm going to struggle replacing at little cost so i'll keep them.

You have to load them again :D. Seriously it's dead simple. You have two ways of doing it:

1. Click the "File" menu --> Backup Database (make sure everything is ticked) to a CD/DVD/USB Stick, then --> File --> Restore Database from the new computer.
2. Click the "Online" menu --> DVD Profiler Online --> Change it from Upload to Download. This downloads your profile from the web back to your PC.

Obviously the former is the better way of doing it. The latter has to re-download all the photos etc... again. The former gets them from the backup which is compressed into a single file.

I regularly backup my database. It takes way too long to re-create it.
