HK stars who have passed away???
Does anyone (and by anyone I mean Markgway ) have some kind of overview of HK stars that has passed away from like Bruce Lee and on?
I found an old list that I had planned to use as a In Memoriam thread on KFC at some point, but it is obviously not comprehensive enough. I've added a few of the recent ones, but feel free to add or chime in. I feel there are plenty of old school stars who have just passed away in silence, without anyone in the fan community really knowing, but it's hard to find info on this.
Here's the list:
Bruce Lee
Yuen Siu Tin
Alexander Fu Sheng
Chiang Sheng
Fung King Man
Lam Ching Ying
Kwan Tak Hing
Eagle Han Ying
King Hu
Wei Ping Ao
Han Ying Chieh
Lo Lieh
Chang Cheh
Leslie Cheung
Anita Mui
Blacky Ko
Walter Tso Tat Wah
Kwan Hoi San
Lung Fong
Lydia Shum
Wong Yu
Kwan Hoi San
Austin Wai Tin Chi
Shing Fui On
Lau Kar Leung
Sir Run Run Shaw
Tyrone Hsu Hsia
Any help is appreciated.... not just from Mark

Shih Kien
Brandon Lee
Margaret Tu Chuan (suicide)
Chen Wo-fu (suicide)
Unicorn Chan (car crash)
Shan Mao (killed in a fight, murder?)
Have any actors died in HK movies due to a stunt going wrong?

Re: HK stars who have passed away???
Thanks, Drago... all glaring omissions, except Margaret Tu Chuan, whom I did not know about. I think I heard Lung Fei died, but I can't remember the source or its validity. I realise all the guys who were already old in the 70's are long gone, like Lee Ho Yan, Wong Ching Ho, Tsang Cho Lam etc. And at some point I plan to do a more comprehensive list, but let's hold off on the obvious ones for now.

Re: HK stars who have passed away???
A lot of these guys died from old age and related illnesses.
Is your list intended to include everyone who's passed away since Bruce Lee or those who passed 'too soon' so to speak?
Betty Le Ti committed suicide in 1968.
Peter Chen Hou died in 1970 (cancer)

Re: HK stars who have passed away???
Thanks, Mark. I plan to include everyone, or as many as I can verify.
And, Drago... no, I don't think any big name stars died in an on-set accident, but I could be wrong.

His last film according to HKMDB was in 1993 but that doesn't mean much.RetroRobot wrote:. I think I heard Lung Fei died, but I can't remember the source or its validity.
I get the impression that he was a gangster, as he appears as one in Bruce Lee Star of Stars called...Lung Fei! And Bruce Li threatens him with an obituary "Move Star Lung Fei found dead!"

Re: HK stars who have passed away???
Not to my knowledge.
Wu Ma died recently.
Ching Miao died in 1989
There's no mention om HKMDB of Ho Lee Yan dying but he last made a film in the early 80s and he looked ready to keel over 20 years before that!
Ou-Yang Sha-Fei (Dragon Fist) died in 2010.
Sammo's grandmother Chin Tsi-Ang, star of Swordswoman of Huangjiang, died in 2009 at the age of 98.

He died in the mid-70s, I think?
I THINK Feng Yi died then too, but don't quote me on that.

Ou Wei died in 1973. He was an award-winning Taiwanese actor, who appeared alongside Cheng Pei-Pei in None But The Brave.

Yeah, I think it's safe to assume that Lee Ho Yan is dead, unless he's the oldest human alive. Man, how could I blank on Wu Ma... shame on me.

Re: HK stars who have passed away???
Hmmm... plenty of guys I wonder about, who hasn't been seen in a long time; Meng Yuen Man, I know that stroke in the 80's didn't kill him, but still. Bruce Tong Yim Chaan, Lam Fai Wong (SB's Dean Shek), Chiang Kam etc.
Sai Gwa Paau is dead, and I think Fan Mei Shang is as well.

I saw a photo of Bruce Tong in 2007, dunno what happened after that.RetroRobot wrote:Hmmm... plenty of guys I wonder about, who hasn't been seen in a long time; Meng Yuen Man, I know that stroke in the 80's didn't kill him, but still. What ever happened to Dean Shek. He seems to have stopped working as an actor in 1991. You couldn't get rid of him before that!

Re: HK stars who have passed away???
Don't know, when Cinema City went under, he kinda dissapeared too, unless he's doing tv that I don't know about. Many of them are.
(Mark beat me to it)
I guess if Bruce Tong looked all right seven years ago, he's probably still alive and kickin'.

Is Chiang Nan dead? Doesn't seem to have worked since early '80s.
