Digitizing the collection - anyone else building media servers?

Hey everyone, I’ve been a long-time collector of boutique action and horror labels, but my shelves are finally starting to groan under the weight. Lately, I’ve been worried about "disc rot" and general wear and tear on some of my rarer out-of-print DVDs, so I decided to finally start digitizing everything into a home media server.
The process of ripping hundreds of discs is a marathon, not a sprint, and it’s made me think a lot about the hardware I’m using. I’m trying to build something that can stay on 24/7 without blowing a hole in my electric bill. I recently picked up a 300-Watt server power supply for the build, mainly because I’ve heard these industrial units are far more efficient for constant uptime than your average desktop PSU.
The specific point I’m debating right now is whether 300 watts https://serverorbit.com/power-supplies/ ... r/300-watt is really the "sweet spot" for a dedicated media box. I’m only running a handful of high-capacity drives and a low-power CPU, so I figure I don’t need a massive 700W unit that’s going to be inefficient at low loads. However, the fan noise on these server units is no joke! It’s a bit of a trade-off: you get that rock-solid reliability that comes with server-grade gear, but you have to hide it in a closet so you don't hear the whine during the quiet scenes of a movie.
It’s been a bit of a learning curve moving from "physical-only" to a hybrid setup. I’ll always love my shelf of cult classics, but having a searchable digital library is becoming a necessity as the collection grows.
Do any of you guys rip your discs to a server for daily viewing, or do you feel like the "ritual" of physically picking a case off the shelf is an essential part of the experience?
