Richard Ng in The Bill!

Was watching The Bill last night when I noticed a familiar looking face as the shopkeeper. Yes - it was Richard Ng! It was only one small scene - but he got a good few lines in English. I know he lives in London so I guess bit parts help pay the rent.

Yep he sure was, I had this ep taped onto my PC from freeview and just realised i still have it!

Actually, Wu or Woo is the mandarin pronunciation of Ng.

really??? that git Hou Ming Ng who was one of my friends at school made us all learn the pronunciation of Ng... you wouldve though he could have at least met usa halfway. Mmmm he had a hot sister....

Is "Woo" the same as "Wu" then? I didnt know this.
Is "Ng" pronounced like "Mm" or something like that?

I was totally confused. I was thinking of Francis Ng and thought, that doesn't look like him. lol.

Uhm... in my Mandarin lesson, I have learned that in pin yin when you stumble across an "ng" it is pronounced like the 'ng' in the end of the word 'ring'.

Actually, if you're being picky "Woo" isn't quite right in this instance.
Richard's name in Cantonese is Ng Yiu Hon and in Mandarin Wu Yao Han.
It's possible for someone with the Mandarin surname "Wu" to be "Woo" in Cantonese but they would have a different Chinese character for their surname than Richard has. His name should either be Richard Wu or Richard Ng. I can only assume he choose a phonetic spelling to save any bother.
Ng is pronounced "mm".

The Cantonese "Ng" doesn't exist in Mandarin. So the "ng as in ring" sound you've been taught would apply to Mandarin names like Ling, Ming or Ping, etc. (Actually all those names are applicible in Cantonese too with roughly the same pronounciation)
