At first, when i saw it, i was like WTF, but reading the article it does make sense, and what a way to go

What the hell?
Well it sure is innovative, but it sure will take some getting used to I can tell you!

I guarantee you some kid will knock his mate out using that as a pair of nunchaku!
That controller is going to alienate a lot of potential buyers who just want a standard controller. Fair play to Nintendo for wanting to do something different, but I think they may have gone a little too far with this...

At first glance it looks like a DVD remote
EDIT: Though the parts about movements responding to whats happening on screen sound interesting, and I missed the bit about turning it round so it can be the NES/SNES joypad. Where is the analogue stick (a la N64)?

wow, that looks staggeringly horrible. fianlly something that makes the x-box controllers look sensible

Hmmm... will be interesting to see what (and IF) 3rd party developers will be ...ehm... developing (I guess) for this new console and the weird controller.
Wouldnt surprise me if this would turn out to be another 'Virtua Boy', with a couple of innovative games, and then to be left dying lonely on the floor...
... unless Nintendo develops a good Xbox/Ps2 style controller as well...
Ah well, not really a big Nintendo fan anyway, so I'll just wait and see ...

Anyone remember the Power Glove?

I wouldnt say the Revolution will be another Virtual Boy just because of that controller.

Its different I'll give you that.
I didnt like the GC controller very much when I first saw it (couldnt get used to having the analogue stick on the left), now its easy to use.

To be honest Nintendo will shoot this console down if they don't developer the old controller. Hopefully the gamecube controller will be compatible with this console.
It sounds interesting and i would like to try it, but i would want a good old fashion games controller. (By the way i hate the xbox controller - yuck!!!) My brother has an xbox, the system is good, but the joypad is way too big.
Playstation controller are perfect

, 2nd is the gamecube.

Slasher, look at the picture on this thread here - there will be 4 GC controller ports on the Revolution
Is it me or does the Revolution look a bit like a Sky+ box or VCR?

Exactly.

I take it you haven't used an
XBox Controller S? It's much more comfy than any other controller I've used. I don't like the
PS2 controllers because I find the analog sticks very unresponsive & not accurate, and haven't had much of a go on a
GameCube so I can't remember what the controller felt like...

OH MY GOD HO MYGODOH MY GOD HO MYGODOH MY GOD HO MYGOD ............
You hold the controller like a remote, but you can wave it around to control the action on the screen.

I remember the villain in "The Wizard" (which starred The Wonder Year's Fred Savage) had one of those. LOL, that movie was virtually a feature-length NES ad.

I didnt see that, do you remember those Nintendo cartoons like Captain N: The Game Master and stuff?
As for downloadable games on the Revolution, I've heard it will be "every Nintendo game ever made" - which could mean every game published and/or developed by them. Sadly this may rule out Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

Grim, I take it they mean every game made FOR Nintendo.
As for the controller... when they first revealed the N64 controller, most people said, "Yuck!" and the same goes for the GameCube controller... well, both controllers won the best controller awards. Awards of course do not mean a lot to people, but in fact, the two controllers were the most comfortable I have ever played with and I'm looking forward to what Nintendo have on their mind this time.

How the hell would GoldenEye and Perfect Dark work with that controller? I'm thinking a more "standard" controller will be released as well...

Well, as you might have read or seen, the Revolution has ports for the GameCube controllers.
I'd imagine that "GoldenEye" would work like any other shooter that'll be developed for the Revolution, though. Have you read what they wrote about "Metroid"? You walk with the stick in your left hand (it also has two trigger buttons) and look around with that remote control by moving your wrist.

Excellent cheers for the news Grim, Nintendo are learning.....

. Well thats made me happy.
I take it you haven't used an XBox Controller S?
Actually no i haven't heard of that. Hopefully willl get my brother to buy that. Playing Streetfighter 2 on the original xbox controller is so hard, does this make it easier IronMonkey?
One thing is that Nintendo is not afraid of taking risk which for this console may be a good thing.

How would you get a SNES like controller though? I guess you could use a HORI pad for the 'Cube.
Posted: 20 Sep 2005, 16:12
by Unrealnils
thats just a mock up of the pad grim it may be diffrent ( that mock is from IGN not nintendo)
PLus the snes controller is only really usefull for SF2 (i love the pad) but most other snes games will work fine on a cube type controller
