Terminator 2: German Special Edition HD-DVD!

WOW check out what they're giving to us with the upcoming Terminator German HD-DVD, no release date as yet:

In short:

* New Restored Transfer.
* New DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 (The UK HD-DVD is the lesser DTS-HD HR 5.1 and the French HD-DVD is DTS-HD MA 5.1).
* New Audio Commentary - It implies New anyway.
* HD-DVD Picture in Picture.
* Lots more extras.

Make sure you check out the trailer, it's only 3 minutes!

On the downside:

* Extended Cut only.
* Most of the Ultimate Edition and Extreme Edition extras still missing.
* I hope they don't stuff it up and enforce the subtitles or don't make the extra English friendly.

I hear the UK/French HD-DVD are great, this is going to rock!

p.s - If you want the Theatrical Cut it's still the French HD-DVD with forced subs or the USA Blu-ray with removable subs (but it otherwise sucks)!

Woo hoo thanks Salty!

That commentary is bound to have been ported from the UE DVD. It looks identical, as do many of the extras. It has a Steelbook case too!

If there ever was a reason to keep supporting HD-DVD this is it! There is definitely still worth in a Combo Player. Where is the best chapest place to import German HD-DVDs?

The German hd-dvds are not cheap,possibly movietyme but don't expect change from £20-£25 . i ordered Silent Hill from Amazon.de for about £18 and R.Evil 1 & 2 from here,they were the cheapest i could find

I'd happily pay £25 for Terminator 2 in HD! If all HD Discs cost this I'd be pissed off but the odd title is okay.

It's one ITV2 now and is still so utterly brilliant. It's by far the best action film ever, it's now 17 years old but still looks modern, the script is brilliant and it's so god damn epic. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try Amazon.de, MovieTyme, Xploited and the like at the time.

p.s - Why didn't you get Resident Evil BDs?

R.E. 1 & 2 were bought when they weren't out on BD. also pt 2 was the extended version. but these are my son's films really,i wouldn't have probably bought them.

Has there been confirmation of no forced German subs during playback of the English audio track?

Ta.

It'd be worth paying a premium if the quality is as top notch as they claim.

Universal are releasing the Studio Canal disc over here this week, but this will probably be the better deal.

No. I doubt we'll get that until it's released but seeing as it has both German and Turkish subs I'd guess that's unlikely.

As I'm sure you know discs that have Forced subs tend to only have one set of them. For example the French HD-DVD has French only on Disc 1 (Forced) but French or Dutch on Disc 2 (Not Forced).

Agreed. I remember reading way back at some trade show the German producers even said they've gone back and Remastered it again over on top of the French HD-DVD.

Add in all those extras and it looks like a lovely package indeed.

At least according to EzyDVD they've retained the DTS-HD MA from the French Disc 2. It is the lesser DTS-HD HR on the UK HD-DVD. Not that probably makes a massive difference anyway, even when we can play them back properly.

Yeah. I wouldn't call it a port though, more like a local repackaging of the same disc. Meh, not that it matters.

I love how they've retained the bad American spelling of Judgement on the boxart though. It always gets a chuckle out of me when I pull out my R1 UE.

It is pretty sloppy spelling even by American English standards. It's the same spelling on the UK discs too.

If by some luck from God I own a Combo in May I'll pick it up otherwise I too will wait for a BD.

The USA BD is cheap. I may pick that up. It's only the Theatrical Cut but I hear the PQ is pretty good. Pity they stuffed up the DTS.
