Had a shitty week
This week my 92-year-old grandfather went to hospital. Turns out he has liver cancer and 40% of said organ will never work again.
The reality didn't set in for me until the day before yesterday, I went with my mum to provide assistance once he had gotten home. He's incredible weak, I had to hold him up whilst he went up the stairs to house, help him get to the toilet and then go to bed.
He's has to move around on a zimmer frame now, very undignified IMO. This is man whom received an MBE for his service during WW2 as a Lieutenant Commander in the Ceylon navy.

That sucks, Eva. It's always hard to see the people you love and respect in bad health etc. Will they treat the livercancer that they found?
I remember with my grandpa, he had been working and designing stuff in the harbour. I believe he was a bit of a technical advisor/designer for boats and stuff... and he was always a small but strongwilled, kind, helpfull kinda grandpa...
One day, his and my grandma's house caught fire (bad wiring, so not their fault) and he tried to still save what he could, so he was still inside etc, but he pretty much came out with maybe a few momento's and no serious injuries.
...but he was a broken man after that. Just, a weak old shadow of his old self. That was hard to see. The fire didnt kill him. No disease ever touched him. But he was so full of pain and regret and I believe he blamed himself for what happened and about how he didnt save enough of the stuff (pictures, books, old stuff from the kids, etc), but not very long afterwards he died. After the incident he was just always weak, stressed, sick, etc.
So yeah, it's hard to see such a person suddenly, by 1 incident, turn into a 'weak' shadow of his former self. You feel sorry for them, they dont deserve it, etc.

I had a shitty week last week. My uncle died of cancer and my girlfriend broke up with me. Since then I haven't went to university or TKD workout and I've been watching really bad old school kung fu films instead and I happen to enjoy them.

woah bad year for 2008....my uncle was diagnosed the first week of jan with prostate cancer...
Eva, i know its very hard to see someone deteriorate infront of your eyes, when you knew them as what seemed to be invincible, i watched this happen with my dad over most of my life but in the last 3years it sped up, to the point we had to feed him in the final days. For me, i dont know for you, this was the hardest part, because you know what is coming and you cant do anything to stop it, like when they have a cold or some curable illness you care for them, you know they will get better in time. i hope you and your family will be ok

Thanks Shen. You have my deepest condolences regarding your uncle.
My grandfather's gotten a lot worse in the last week. I saw him yesterday morning and he could barely form coherent sentences (he definitely could last week). We had the vicar from his church over performing the Last Rites.
He's hardly been eating; just having a few ounces of ice cream, yoghurt or baby food fed to him every few hours.
He asked me to turn on the news on the radio, as I searched the FM spectrum for anything remotely like the news (the closest I got was a Mandarin talkback station
) He told me to just turn it off after awhile, saying that everything is just noise to him now (TV and the radio).

My condolences man. At least he was surrounded by people who loved and cared about him, in his final days, but still a very tough pill to swallow, if the earlier prognosis was 1-4 months.
I often wonder how much the mind takes over, from the moment someone hears (s)he's dying. You often hear of people who go to a doctor, checking something out, suddenly hear they are dying within months, and very quickly their health diminishes.
