Virus at Imports Forum

Post by bradavon »

You guys might have noticed The Imports Forum has been having problems loading the past day or so, and if it does it usually crashes out with a Database error.

Well it's just loaded for me and entering one of the subforums my AntiVirus program (Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0) told me it was infected with the Trojan "Trojan.HTML.Crasher".

It could be a False Positive (Wrong) but it's better to be safe than sorry and all make sure your Anti-Virus + AntiSpyware programs are the latest versions and up to date. If you don't have both Anti-Virus + AntiSpyware software (and a Hardware or Software Firewall), get something!

Here is what Kaspersky Internet Security then tells Firefox to load instead:
ACCESS DENIED

The folowing error was encountered:

Mark do you know about this option? -

I believe most members go straight to it when they first visit Bullets. I've noticed you don't look at all subforums. With this it allows you to more efficiently see all threads replied to (in all subforums) and from the list open those that interest you.

Has it worked fine since the w/e? Thanks. What Anti-Virus software are you using? You might want to quickly check it's up to date just in case.

It's still barely working for me. It either doesn't load at all, I get Database errors or my virus software tells me the site has virus (it's not done this for a few days now). I managed to get in for a few minutes last night and managed to reply to one thread. I know it's not my Virus software because if I disable it it's no different.

Romerojpg has sent me a PM (see he's not dead :D) but I cannot bloody get the link to open to see what he's said. I've just managed to get in for long enough to even see it's from him.

Well it's starting to work a little better for me. I can now browse the forum again but as soon as I try and login, reply to a thread or check my PM's it falls over again.

The upside: I'm no longer getting virus warnings (since Tuesday). I guess they've fixed that.

What virus checkers are you guys all using? It's possible they missed it. If so I guess it wasn't a particularly dangerous virus.

They have not fixed anything, as they never had anything :) its just your PC. You are the only person that has had this, probibly spy shitty stuff on your pc, not Import Forums.

When I got a nasty bug a while back I got much the same as you have now, it was nothing to to with the sites it was my PC alone. Once I found the thing on my PC (was very, very hard to find and get rid of) it worked 100% perfect.

Have you tried deleting your cookies? Disable Adblock and Noscript and see if that helps.

Thanks for the help guys.

I'm do not believe it is my PC but agreed it could just as well be my PC. I need to try another one running the same security software I do. I'll try it at my Mum's PC when I next go over.

It's the only site I cannot get into. A few weeks back I couldn't get into Digital Spy for a week then it worked fine again and has since. They were having problems though.

It's not Spyware/Virus related but could be an issue at my ISP's end. I've tried:

1. Running it in both IE7 and FF2 - So it's not a FF Add-on problem. I have virtually no add-ons installed in IE7 (just Java type stuff).
2. Disabling my Security Suite.
3. Deleting all Cookies, History and Cache in IE7 (it's better to test things in IE7) - Including deleting the files physically (except which are open) using the Command Prompt and the DOS DELTREE.EXE command. I don't trust Windows front end to delete them properly, stupid Special Folders.
4. My Security Suite is the latest version with all updates.
5. Vista's Windows Update reports no updates to install.
6. I've run CCleaner (File and Registry Cleaner) and Advanced Registry Doctor (Advanced Registry Cleaner and also Registry Defragmenter).
7. I also run Spyware Blaster which adds known BAD sites to IE and Firefox's bad list in the Security Zone. It also blocks known bad cookies and ActiveX. This isn't a real time scanner like most Spyware tools as it's designed to just add content to BAD lists.
8. I've just tried disabling Spyware Blaster's Protection (which means it removes all entries from BAD lists) and again no difference.
9. I run a modified HOSTS file. I've just tried a HOSTS file and it made no difference, including a reboot.
10. Running IE7 in Admin Mode.

I don't run Noscript but do Ad-Block Plus.

Doesn't Noscript block Java/Flash which means most sites you have to constantly allow for them to work?

I often also get when trying to click on any link over at Import forum:

The requested URL /mode was not found on this server.

And the url in the address bar changes to:

http://www.theimportforums.com/mode

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just managed to login for the first time in 2 weeks then :D -

I've cracked it. Tonight I tried using Import Forum at my Mum's house and was getting exactly the same problem.

I tried creating a new account and voila it's working perfectly. Something is definitely completely broken with my old account. I've PMed one of the Import Forum Mods asking he look into it and get my old account fixed. When I try and use it I get all the same errors as posted above.

I wish someone had helped me though. I've not been able to get into Import Forum for 2 MONTHS and none of the Admin guys seem to care at all.
