I've now calmed down a little from earlier so i'll add my twopenneth worth here. Obviously overnight Bradavon had returned from his sabbatical and made a number of posts over a short period of time.Personally i see no problem in this and i wouldn't class it as spamming.
This morning i responded to one of his posts in the hd combo thread. Bradavon then decided to respond and add weight to his reply by quoting part of a PM i had sent in reply to him earlier last week. Now the quote itself was innocuous but the principle remains the same, to make public on a forum part of a member's PM is to me a serious abuse of a moderator's powers.
I was and am very angry and i posted to Bradavon not to PM me again. He's ignored this and sent me two (i assume they are from him i haven't read them). I then vented my spleen in the infamous locked thread,Bradavon deleted 3 of my posts and edited one, maybe two in the space of five minutes.I won't call that an abuse of Moderator powers as i suppose he can do that if he feels the content was controversial. But they were pretty innoccuous posts imo.
To sum up i never jumped straight on the anti-Bradavon wagon and i still feel LD for example was far too sensitive but i can now see where you guys are coming from.
I have no wish for Bradavon to leave these boards,he's a long-time member here but i do feel now his position as a moderator is untenable and as a man of honour he should quietly step down and join the ranks of normal members here.

Well... that's what I've been saying all along. As a user, I'm OK with Brad. if he pissed me off, I can just choose to ignore or attack him.
As a mod, I can no longer accept him, and he has 'abused' his powers and position multiple times the last 4-5 weeks, including removing a very obvious joke from me, editing and deleting his own posts to change his own statements etc, making the whole further discussion look like the rest of us are loonies, ('ow, where did I say that?' ) , and TBH LD was more than right to be extremely pissed off with Brad...
Now, I'm not saying Brad should leave altogether, but I think pretty much everyone here agrees he's a worthless mod.
Tom understands, or understood (he dropped his position), what it means to be a mod on this board. Brad obviously doesnt.
I'm sure Brad thinks we're overreacting, but TBH we have been very polite up untill a month orso ago, and we get shit in return. Brad hardly reads replies, doesnt apologize, doesnt seem to understand what is written but instead chooses to jump to conclusions which usually starts more shit, etc etc.
Brad repeatedly says he is asking a question, yet when you answer that question he doesnt acknowledge it. When you proof him wrong he's either too stubborn or too stupid to admit he's wrong, and when he fucks up he's too arrogant to just say 'I'm sorry' (like when he deleted a perfectly fine joke cause apparently it wasnt obvious enough to him...(!) )
He's accused LD of all kinds of stuff, usually over something as small as LD just not being very interested in seeing Happy Together or Brokeback Mountain or something...and he does that sort of stuff to most people here in the board, which is immensely annoying cause it just means we all have to go the extra miles to explain ourselfs even further beyond the borders of normal simplicity...
Like I said, Brad as a member I can live with, and treat with respect.
But Brad as a mod I dont wanna waste anymore time on, cause whats the point!? If you get into an argument with him and he's losing (he usually does), he'll just edit his posts, edit mine posts, delete posts, or close the whole damn thread...
I cant be bothered anymore.

Yi-Long: We're all as bad as each other. Your post above just proves that. Most of what you've written twists the truth and is completely inaccurate but then you'll just say I'd say that. Likewise I would about you.
You won't be happy until I'm gone, as illustrated well by your PM to Tom this morning asking me to be removed for in your opinion spamming, not because of what I said but because I posted at all.
Of course I think everyone is overreacting. I've not posted for a week and in a matter of hours before I've even had a chance to do any moderating or say something offensive the whole "Brad Bashing Thread" was brought up again. It's all we've talked about for the past 2 weeks. You cannot say I've been annoying for the past week I've not posted!
Just look at how dead the Asian film forum has become. People seem to have more interest in ranting at each other than actually discussing films any more.
I've no problem stepping down but all we've had for 2 weeks now is rant, flame war, rant, flame war and lots of really OTT rash decisions. As soon as it looks to be calming down someone else throws their teddies out of the pram and all the emotions are fired up again. I still think we need to give it a couple of weeks to actually calm down and then see how things are. I'll repeat I've no problem stepping down.
If we do have a new moderator it will have to be someone completely new. Tom is now too emotionally involved and wouldn't be able to treat everyone equally. It would also need to be a majority decision and not just the vocal minority who is posting in these threads.
Right this really must be the last time I contribute to this thread. Me contributing just make it worse.

Please read the PM's Salty

Just to quickly add it was bad judgement on my part but wasn't a moderator thing as anyone can copy/paste content from a PM into a public message. I just want to quickly point that out. Otherwise I take on board what you've saidsaltysam wrote:to make public on a forum part of a member's PM is to me a serious abuse of a moderator's powers.

Like I said earlier, I dont think you should LEAVE, but as a mod, you're longest days should be over.
I think you stepping down and Tom stepping back up would be the very best thing. I have no doubts about Tom's judgement, and I doubt he'll treat you or other others different from how he treated them before.Of course I think everyone is overreacting. Yeah, you've not posted this last week, and thus not pissed anyone off, but that doesnt mean everything is just magically forgotten nor forgiven. So yeah, that takes time.

I've not posted on this matter at all, cause I don't use this forum as much as I used to (only really the DVD mystere thread and the odd other one that catches my eye) but after reading these latest updates I thought I'd chime in with my opinion.
First off, I have no problems with brad as a user. Never have. No arguements or ill feeling at all.
I do think though that his use of his moderating powers has been a little excessive if what I've read is all true. I don't think he should be locking threads as readily as he has been. If a thread discussion has died, the thread will die on its own accord. If the thread is still active, whether the discussion is repitition or not, it should not be locked.
A moderator acting purely on his own opinions is not a good moderator... that's why it is called being a moderator, the person is meant to moderate, not dictate what happens.
If you make a post it should also not be deleted, maybe except if it is the last post in the thread and you effed up. Go back fix it, whatever. But if it is in mid thread, then it should stay as is.
I'm going to stop commenting on individual decisions that Brad has made, but summarise to say that I do think he should step down as a mod asap. The general concensus seems that this would be best for the board, which is the most important thing, and it would help restore some calm around here. I do think he has abused his mod powers and as such I think someone with a less trigger happy "mod" button should be appointed.
I do also think that other people have been overly aggressive towards Brad as well though, and they do share some of the blame with what's happening.
And in response to one of brad's comments about there being little to no activity when he was away recently - don't worry about that. If things are going to rekindle here, then they will do so themselves. You (nor anyone else) can FORCE it to be active without causing more harm in the process. Maybe calm and inactivity is what this place needs so things can build back up again, with hopefully stronger foundations (just watched Property Ladded - hence the analogy)!!

Guilty of the first part, but I deny the latter. He made it quite clear that he considers this to be his forum and wasn't going to be reasonable. Once I realised that I saw little point in civility, that and he gets right on my nerves.degeneration wrote:I do also think that other people have been overly aggressive towards Brad as well though, and they do share some of the blame with what's happening.

Yi/Lourdes, I think you're being very petty TBH and it annoys me, everyone else has calmed down. We all have arguments, I think LD was OTT in leaving. If someone doesnt agree with your POV, so what? It's the Internet! We all have different views. Maybe he could have phrased it better but freedom of speech and all that.
Don't keep bearing grudges otherwise it will make BnB worse, maybe destroy it and thats sad
I havent had a problem with Brad (ie over the past 2 weeks), though Degen makes a good point, theres no need to keep locking threads. If a discussion has died it will just die.

Good for you.maybe if your private pm's were being quoted in a thread to bolster an argument you'd feel differently. I had no problem either until then.I do now. If you did what he did with my pm i'd expect a moderator to step in but as Bradavon was guilty of doing it himself how could he? Bradavon the forum member fine,as a moderator he's a busted flush Grim.grim_tales wrote: I havent had a problem with Brad (ie over the past 2 weeks)

There's a difference between an opinion, or stating that opinion as FACT, as Brad has a tencency to do, or turning his opinion into an accusation, which he did to LD... and why LD got pissed off and turned his back on Brad. And rightly so.grim_tales wrote:Yi/Lourdes, I think you're being very petty TBH and it annoys me, everyone else has calmed down. We all have arguments, I think LD was OTT in leaving. I dont think I'm petty in my criticisme, cause my problems with Brad are the same as most of us here have with Brad.
People are not leaving this board because of ME (not that I'm aware of), but because of Brad's attitude and behaviour.
Now, I would agree with you that this is going a bit far, and if Brad was just a regular user, I probably would care a lot less.
But he's a mod and he's deleting and editing posts and closing threads and if he was RIGH, that wouldnt be an issue, but too often he's wrong. And he doesnt apologize for being wrong, which to me is always a huge no-no, especially when your actions affects others.
Brad as a user I can live with, and we'll probably still have arguments as usual, but I have no problem with that.
But Brad as a mod, after all the recent shit, is unacceptable for me.
I dont want to be in an argument with someone who is clueless, doesnt read properly, yet has the power and motivation to delete my posts, and edit/remove his own (including quotes).
BTW Grim, NO-ONE EVERRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr has an argument with YOU. You're like a innocent little puppy that we wouldnt dare upset
