Alicia Keys has always come across to me to be an intelligent person. What's your source? Was it taken from a longer article?

To answer your question I wasn't talking about black music, no. Music is music and it maybe sung more by a particular colour but it belongs to know one. Many white artists for instance now sing hip hop. Calling it "black music" just fuels the segregation".
Its from the big music mag BLENDER she did an in depth interview for them, she comes across as a complete looney and people like her need locking up and throwing the key away.

The victims of gangata rap = a ploy invented by the govenrment
"To convince black people to Kill each other"
:D She is a loonball.

Her new album to come features political songs to promote black nationalism. Good for her, crazy ho.

grim_tales wrote:Well R&B originally meant Rhythm and Blues, I can't see/hear any blues in most watered down US soul/R&B these days. R&B was a term coined by music journo Jerry Wexler as a more acceptable term for "race music" (ie playing black artists on white radio).
R&B has changed in style from what it once was.
The original R&B was cool... Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Spencer Davis, etc... now it's basterdised shit. Gives true R&B a bad name. It's like having two guys bitch slap each other and call it Kung Fu.

Really? It sounds interesting, thanks. No really, it does.

The world would consist of just you, if you got your way :D. Everyone else would be in jail.

That's more than I was expecting :D. Although that's really a Mark Ronson song, which is probably why you like it.

I wouldn't go as far as you but it is 100% different from how it once was. I thought Aretha Franklin was soul. How would you define soul music?

For a modern R&B album sung how it used to be sung, check out Beverley Knight's "Music City Soul". It's nothing like her pop stuff and is flipping fantastic.

Well technically it's more a Zutons song :P

I can't stand it tbh, I don't mind Winehouse's albums though.

Okay, but the one Mark means is Ronson's.

"Back to Black" and "Rehab" (the songs) are OK :)
Aretha Franklin was more gospel/soul wasn't she? (RESPECT, Bridge Over Troubled Water etc).

To be fair, how the American Government helped during Hurricane Katrina was abysmal but clearly it was Bush not caring about the poor not black people specifically.

Regardless it does come across as a complete knob. In another You Tube video he corrects himself and says "George Bush doesn't care about anyone", which is probably closer to the truth.

Check out this rant he also gave about not being nominated :D -

To be fair to the US government, the National Guard was in Iraq at the time.

So yes, they horribly managed the situation, because their resources were tied up at another badly administrated location. The domino effect.

I'd say she's R&B. Soul is softer, smoother, less raw. Maybe Al Green?

Thanks for the tip. I'll bear in mind.

Gospel is religious music. Respect is pure R&B - one of my all-time faves.

Beverley Knight's "Music City Soul" is marvellous.

I've listened to it regularly ever since it was released May last year. I hope she releases more albums like it, but she probably won't as it's not commercial enough and wasn't a major success.
