Asian Movie Subtitle Mystère
Scoreboard:
6 Points: EvaUnit02.
3 Points: HungFist.
3 Points: Tom2681.
3 Points: Gasteropod.
3 Points: Yi-Long.
This is just a test. If people like it, we'll keep it.
If they don't, I'll lock it.
BTW, I'd like to thank Grim for providing the concept.
Here are the rules:
-Post a subtitle sample from an asian film and include the country of origin and the year of release.
-Make sure the subtitle is as unique as possible (stuff like "Show me your kung-fu skills" won't work. You have to make sure that the film can be recognized).
-Leave it untouched. If it's in engrish, keep the spelling mistakes.
As for the rest of the rules, it's the same as DVD Mystère:
Winner posts the next sub, country of origin should change after each round, winner gets 3 points, winner gets one point if he guesses 2 or 3 movies in one go.
Note: there's always a chance that two movies will contain the same subtitle. But you'll only get points if you find the movie that the gamekeeper is using. There are no extra points for finding another movie with the same subtitle.
Example:
"Wash your ass and wait for me".
Hong-Kong, 1992.
-Full Contact?
-Yep, you win. Your turn.
**********
Let's start with an easy one:
"You selfish generation! You upset all the Hong-Kong people! And all the Hong-Kong uncle!"
Hong-Kong, 2005.
6 Points: EvaUnit02.
3 Points: HungFist.
3 Points: Tom2681.
3 Points: Gasteropod.
3 Points: Yi-Long.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

An interesting idea but is it easy to remember a line from a subtitled film? Original language yes but a subtitled line?
What about different distributors, releasing different lines for the same film? It's an interesting idea but think it will prove to be way too difficult. I know the subtitles from some films well but most I cannot remember.
Even taking Crouching Tiger as an example I love the scene when XXX dies but the subs differ on different releases and I only remember one set of them, which others say aren't the proper subs.

Some lines are so memorable that they never get lost in translations.
As for remembering them, it's easy for some people and more difficult for others.
Just like it's easy/difficult to remember a particular shot.
Like I said, it's just a test. We'll see where it goes.
Probably nowhere, but you never know...

New clue:
"We make a lot of movie. Big movie! Big movie! With big titties!".
If you can't remember this line, then you haven't seen the film.

Yep.
HungFist opens his account with 3 points. Well done.
Don't forget to include the country of origin and year of release with your next sub.

Awesome.
Having the year of release makes it a lot easier.
Back to Hong-Kong:
"Fighting is OK. Don't mess up my hair".
Hong-Kong, 1999.

"Fighting is OK. Don't mess up my hair".
Hong-Kong, 1999.
Stormriders?
That does sound like something Ekin Cheng would say, doesn't it?
But no.
