I quite like the unusual cover art.

I'll go for the R3, it wouldnt be the first DVD I've bought without having seen the film

Anyway why would I pay £6-ish to go to the cinema when I get the DVD for £7.99?

I hate when decent films flop because the studios don't really believe in them compared with crap that they do.

If Jet Li was a White American he'd be as big as Vin Diesel no problem

Because you can't compare the cinema experience to the DVD experience. Both have their pros and cons (usually better sound at home but much better visuals at the cinema).

Having said that I reckon I'm going to love this and will probably buy the DVD as well or just the DVD as my local cinemas have the habit of not showing films that don't do to well or could be called B-Grade (not that I'd call it this).

I like the HK cover art also.

I'll almost certainly get the DVD, my local cinema *may* show this but not sure, its likely to be an 18 in the UK, no? (If it is, thats good in a way)

Mind you KOTD was a UK 18, the French DVD was an uncut 12 (!)

According to this thread on DVD Talk the US Theatrical release of DTD was slightly cut (nothing major though) to make it more action orientated.

How does that compare to the US or French releases?

I was reading (honest

) Nuts earlier (top boob article btw) and it mentioned this isn't out until the 19th of August

and is called "Unleashed"

and its always been called Unleasehed in UK for a long time now sadly

I dont know about the French release but 101m 51s is the same as the HK release which is 102m long on CD-WOW which I think (?) should be uncut. No reason why not anyway...

The cd has always been danny the Dog yes

but the advertsing the last few weeks and all the press seems all to be Unleashed now, so it makes the cd a bit pointless

As there is a few asian dvds out now, all badly dubbed I think and no subs for english people, so pointless

That won't be the HK DVD. Sensasian also sell Taiwan and Mainland Chinese DVDs.

Both of which it goes without saying are best avoided.

I saw Unleashed/Danny at the theatre last friday, and was pretty impressed with the fight-scenes.
Overall, I liked the movie and feel it's one of Jet's better ones (although no-where near as good as Fist of Legend)
Bob Hoskins was great. The rest of the gangsters were also cool. Usually, in these kind of movies, they tend to 'over-do' the gangsters, but here it was done well...

I was NOT satisfied with Morgan Freeman's role though, nor the part of the young girl. The problem was mostly in the writing, but it just screamed 'Disney family flick' or weekly TV movie or whatever. All the 'ho-ho-ho' and cute stuff... too unrealistic. I KNOW that was necesarry to 'melt'/open danny's heart and all... but still... it was a bit overdone.
The girl wasnt as annoying as Fonda in KOTD, but especially in the beginning she was pushing it, with the constant talking and the bracelets and the big eyes and the daffy duck talk etc.

Also, and I believe more people have noted it, there's a big gap in teh ending, where Bob Hoskins tells a bunch of guys (about 4) to wait by the door... which they do... but they do it a bit too well, as we never see them again in the movie, even though the fight between Bob and Jet takes place 1 floor higher or something, and they MUST have heard the gunshots and all... so that was kinda a big mistake...

Jet's performance was so-so... I felt that especially in the beginning he was kinda at a loss at how to perform the part. Sometimes looked like a kid with down-syndrome or something. I could have accepted that if say, Bob, had been feeding him pills or whatever to keep him sedated or whatever... but it's all a bit far-fetched. So I was kinda 'annoyed' by those aspects of the movie...

The rest of the movie was great though. Cinematography and editing was near-perfect. Felt VERY fresh, with using a nice editing style and all. The fights were also filmed very well and clear. It could have done with a few more fights, perhaps drawn more out of the underground-fighting setting etc etc... but as it stands it's a very entertaining movie ...

How does it compare to his American flicks? With only KOTD being half good.

Thanks Brad... although i wouldnt really call it a 'review' ...

No, it wouldnt work as a drama without the fighting. Mainly because the fighting is such an important aspect of the movie, but also because the 'drama' is a bit 'too much'. Freeman and his daughter are a bit TOO sweet ( a bit unrealistical, too 'disney'), so you do really need that strong contrast of violence and 'evil' in there to kinda keep you interested. Plus let's face it, we all want to see kick-ass action. Luckily, in this movie it was very well done, and ofcourse I wish there would have been a couple more fights, but as it stands it's already 'enough'.

Personally, Kiss of the Dragon has very little replay-value for me, mainly because of Fonda, the bad editing in the fightscenes, and the crappy ending ...
First time I watched it, I really liked the movie (apart from above criticisms), but the 2nd time I already felt more and more annoyed by it's shortcomings.

I actually even prefer Romeo must Die to KOTD. Mainly because even though it's very light popcorn-fluff, it showcases a VERY charismatic and versatible Jet Li. Yeah the fights should have been better and Russel Wong isnt good enough to be a main villain etc etc, but it had some nice humour, acute story, and some very cool scenes.

But Unleashed IS Jet's best 'western' movie to date, no doubt. The action is VERY good, most of the actors are good, story and setting is pretty fresh and entertaining. The only things that bothered me I've already mentioned ...

Hopefully, Jet's next movie will have the same action-director and editor...

True. OUATIC and OUATIC2 could almost work without the fights sure we want them but if a film "could" work without them it means a lot.

According to Tigerstyles the HK DVD is the US "Rated" version of the film.

An "UNRATED" R1 is due out simultaneously. Sounds like the one to get.
