'Hidden Japan' season on BBC Four

Post by gasteropod »

I saw the funny advert for it a couple of nights ago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP2EtqjwRLM), and it begins tonight at 23:30 with Takeshi Kitano's 'Kikujiro'.

Funny this season has come about when I started learning Japanese last week hehe :)

Here's the BBC Four site if you wanna check out the upcoming stuff in the Japan season and see some clips:

I wish they would just air this on BBC2 or something, so I could enjoy it as well. It seems BBC4 has a much more interesting programming for geeks like me, than BBC2 has.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Ahh shit, that's a shame. :(

Well Kikujiro was great, has anyone here seen it? Funny little film that just meandered on with no real plot, with silent comedy type things going on and it was also quite heartwarming.

All four BBC channels are now streamed live, if that's what you mean plus there's iPlayer of course. Here we are:

BBC iPlayer - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
ITV Catch Up (same as iPlayer) - http://www.itv.com/catchup/
BBC 1 Live - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/watchlive/
BBC 2 Live - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/watchlive/
BBC 3 Live - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/livearena/
BBC 4 Live - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/watchlive/
BBC News 24 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7459669.stm
Sky News - http://news.sky.com/skynews/sky-live-tv

You may have some issues with IP addresses outside The UK though.

BBC 4 is the Beeb's "culture" channel. Both BBC3 and BBC4 specialise, BBC1 and BBC2 don't. Both BBC1 and BBC2 have to show a much wider range of programming, being analogue too.

I didn't bother watching it, not really being a Kitano fan. I may check out that Marcel Theroux documentary, if only to see how he compares with his younger brother Louis.

It's the first samurai film I've ever seen, and I thought it was very good. The only thing I could pick fault with is the little bit of CGI near the end which looked a bit out of place, otherwise a very well made picture.

Did anyone watch it?

I can't remember the last time I actually sat down properly to watch a film on TV, I'm sure most members here have seen Hidden Blade though. Good film, imo the weakest in the trilogy.

Yeah I've just never really been interested in that kind of thing, but just lately I've been watching stuff like Samurai Champloo (yeah I know it's not exactly historically accurate hahaha) and the documentaries on BBC 4 so I'm getting more into it now.
