Yeah... on the one hand it obviously sucks, as I've been busy re-installing all kinds of programs and downloading codecs and newer versions of software etc etc.

On the other hand it's 'nice' to have a clean PC again.

Anyway, downloaded Adobe CS4, which seems to work fine, and I will hopefully use one of these days when I've installed my wacom-tablet ...

Also, Onslow is funny but Josephine Tewson's over acting (as Elizabeth) is very tiresome with her high pitched voice (OK, you're nervous and can't hold a bloody teacup, we get it)

Hmmm... seems like my installation of CS4 has ran into some problems. Adobe's protection seems to be better than before, as it still goes online, checks if my version is legit, and then obviously gives problems when it finds out it's an illegal version.

Found a website with information about how to avoid Adobe checking my software, but it seems like A LOT of work. Might just go back to CS3 instead.

When installing it all, I went offline, to bypass the online registration. However, after I have installed it all perfectly and working a week orso ago, Adobe has contacted my PC when I WAS online, checked the software, and deemed it illegal.

Now I'll have to re-install everything, plus ban all adobe's connections in my firewall so it will stop contacting my PC, which is obviously a bit harder than it sounds.

It seems they have finally come up with a more than decent anti-piracy ploy, but obviously it's annoying as hell for users like me who don't use it commercially and certainly aren't gonna pay over a 1000 bucks for it.

That does sound annoying. Thankfully they don't bother with this with Photoshop Elements 7, which is the latest version. For me, their Home product is better.

What do you mean, Home product!? Just a version for peoplelike us who need this kind of software for basic stuff?

I don't know if Elements has all the stuff I would need.

This is the page that has all the information about how to bypass the security etc. Like I said, it's a bitch. Will see if I wanna do this all tomorrow, but it involves installing a few new programs like a firewall and registry-cleaner, and a bunch of other crap that takes a lot of time.

It's almost as if Adobe WANTS everyone to cross over to G.I.M.P or Paint.net or whatever.

Yes. Adobe also make a Commercial/Home user product, called Photoshop Elements.

It has "One-Click" features to aid with touching up photos, including a clever "Red Eye" tool (not in the Pro product). As well as some of the bigger filters from the Pro product.

Obviously it's not a patch on the Pro product technically speaking but it is also a LOT easier to use and more than powerful enough for my needs.

It also costs £80 vs. £600. Not that I've bought it. Truth be told a lot of people who download CS4 will never use or need half of it's features. I've not used the Pro version since Version 6, maybe 7 (CS4 being Version 11, Version 8 being the first CS version).

No they want Professionals to use Photoshop (who can afford the high costs) and the Home user Elements. GIMP and Paint.NET really cannot be compared to the Pro Photoshop. This is a common misconception. People assume they need Pro/CS4 when they really so don't.

Corel have taken a similar approach:

* Corel DRAW Suite (which includes Photo-Paint, not a patch on Photoshop)
* Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo - Corel bought Jasc a few years back.

The truth is though both Corel products aren't a patch on Adobe's. I've given a recent Paint Shop Pro Photo ago, it's not a patch on Elements. Adobe are the market leaders for a reason.

Paint.NET is decent, for those who only want basic editing. I used it at work (as it's free).

That is a good price. I believe those are the best "DVD" versions of ATGB and DOBW world-wide. Pity the box set is the only way to get them. Their are HK BDs of them too.

I already own 2046: Aussie 2 Disc Tin, so it doesn't interest me.

Photoshop Elements seems tobe more aimed at at-home hobby photographers or something.
I think I'm best of with the complete Photoshop, also because I'm aready familiar with that program. Just hope I can bypass all the security crap. Can't say I'm looking forward to going through all that effort, but oh well...(!)

I haven't tried GIMP or Paint.net yet. Both seem to be getting praise, but I'm not sure how good they are for illustration-work. The coming week will be warm and sunny according to the weather reports, so I'll be sitting outside with a bunch of magazines and a sketch- & notepad, going through articles on all kinds of programs (old and new), and making a list of what I want and need.

Anyway, After buying my Miami Vice collection early this morning, I had to go to the other side of the country to have 'yamcha' with my girlfriend, her little sister and my girlfriend's friend (pretty doctor girl).
I arrived a bit early, so I went to the comicbook-store and bought:

Naruto manga 34-35-36 and 37. Sadly they didn't have 33 so I'll have to pick that one up next week in Rotterdam.

When I came home tonight there was an Amazon-parcel waiting for me, with Ultimate Spider-man 3,4 and 5 (all HC) in it. Book 3 and 5 were in great condition, but book 4 was sealed differently (as in: resealed), and the cover was damaged. Not quite sure what to do about it. I could drop amazon.com a mail saying I'm not satisfied with book 4, but it will just mean me having to send it back and hoping they'll send me a better version, plus give me my postage back.
I might try ironing the cover (sleeve), cause it seems it isn't ripped, and that might fix it.

Short summary:
- Miami Vice boxset 1,3,4 & 5
- Naruto manga 34, 35, 36 & 37
- Ultimate Spider-Man HC 3, 4 & 5.

I think that's all for a while now. The only thing on my short-term to-buy list are the PS3 version of Oblivion GOTY (13 euros), and MAYBE Sim City 4 Deluxe (7 euro).

Amasia released The Rebel!?!? Awesome! That label is releasing DVDs here in Holland as well. I'm waiting for some of them to go down slightly in price though (now 15 euro's for 1 DVD).

Still haven't watched it. Got some other priorities at the moment, like catching up on movies I bought a year ago and still haven't had the time to watch.

But I'll be back with a short review if I've seen it, promise.
