I'll keep mine too. Ironically I once had a UK release that had poetic subs all along :P
The film is set in the late 19th century, not 18th century.

How did you have a UK release with poetic subs? The UK one has the 'dumbed down' ones like the BD.

It's good but I much prefer CE. It has less re-watch value.

Me too exactly. I never expected the original subs. I doubt we'll ever see those used again. The R3 SB has the dumbed downed subs too.

Post on DVD Active and tell Chris then.

Oh god don't go there. You'll get Tom started next. I believe he claimed the R1 and some UK R2 releases had the original subs. The evidence was dubious IMO.

Perhaps 'some' of the UK BDs will have the original subs then

The first batch of UK DVDs had the theatrical subs, subsequent batches (and it appears the BD) used the slightly dumbed down American translation. Mine is from the first batch as I happened to buy this on offer when it charted.

I received the blu-ray today, got to admit I'm impressed with how fast Chris Gould has got his review up as he couldn't have got it any earlier than Monday, and he's ill too!

Wasn't there a thread on these forums a while back that posted examples between the two translations?

Surely he has a check disc, no?

Yes but please let's not go there :D.

If you're interested, it's easy to find. I found it recently. You'll find it in my DVD Active comments too.

That's what I'm talking about, they've only recently sent out the check discs.

Haven't had a chance to look at it yet Gastero, so many review discs waiting to be covered before July 6th: I have a 13ep volume of Naruto, 13ep volume of Bleach, and BDs of Punisher: Warzone, Highlander, and the US John Adams boxset on its way. :D

I'll probably sit down to watch it Thursday or so.

I really wish Cine-asia would STOP using DD5.1 on their BDs! AFAIK only Chocolate has DTS-HD MA and the packaging for that even says DD5.1.

Woohoo, looks like Ip Man is getting a Region B Blu-ray release finally - Amazon and CD Wow have it available for release 28/09 and 26/10 respectively.

Amazon list the Studio as "Showbox Media Group"... does anyone know how they stack up for Blu-ray releases?

it's been up for pre-order on play for months now.if showbox is cine-asia then they are inconsistent with their BR releases.

Indeed, when I saw it on TV years ago I found it so sick and didn't think I'd want to watch it again, but I think I may have to check out this BD if it's a good presentation.

I do wonder how on earth they can fill 2 Blu Rays! thats like 100 GB's of info haha

Seriously dont expect them to fill them thats for sure, unless the second disc is a Digital Ipod Pirate version (which means its worthless).

Since when do the 2-discs have to be full? It's been used as a marketing ploy since DVDs.

Are we sure it's 2 Blu-rays? Could be BD for the film and DVD for extras.
